Am i the only one that gets really mad at all the stupid things people put on their instagram stories. Posting that people shouldn't kill themselves because they care about them, even if they don't know them. NO YOU DONT. It makes me so mad because its just performative and to look different and edgy.

If you really care about people killing themselves then how about just being a kind person to the people that you do know, rather than posting about how good you are.

Anyone else ?

My favorite thing is when the people that actively contributed to me wanting to kill myself post suicide awareness stuff. Or when the people that still to this day either bully me or refuse to help in anyway shape or form post the same kind of stuff. Or when someone who's straight up told me to kill myself posts that.
Why bother actually doing anything to help suicidal people, when you can just post about how much you care on facebook once in a while and have everyone admire how much of a great caring person you are.

not always but yeah, the ones that bitch about it the most do see to be the ones that do the least about it. if people would actually put actions behind their words there would be a lot less problems. (or if the people that caused it in the first place didnt even do it, that would be awesome too)

Social media: "Don't end your life. You MATTER!"

Suicidal individual: "Oh, cool! So can we be friends or something?"

Social media: "Eww go away! I don't want to be around a 'toxic' person like you! Go and bother someone else with your problems!"

Also social media: "Why are so many people killing themselves? It's tragic!"

Almost everyone I've ever seen post that suicide awareness bullshit is a fucking horrible person who would much rather treat people who are struggling with their mental health like absolute shit than actually care about them. Maybe it's just how they make themselves feel better about how shitty they are.

I have a very loving family and I still want to die. It's about the suffering and constant mental exhaustion and battles I have to go through 24 hours a day with my anxieties and depression. Throw on some good old regular stress and responsibilities... just wanna be done. To much suffering

Many people suffer from bullying or feelings of worthlessness thanks to social media so people trying to promote suicide awareness there is ironic

so many people i know cut me off because my being suicidal was annoying for them, and then they preach about how important mental heath and looking out for others it.

but tbh you can't expect much else from people on these platforms

All the things that suicide awareness tells you what you should do ends up backfiring because people don't care or don't see you as important enough to help. Suicide awareness posts are empty just like the person that posts them are.

Using social media is a mistake.
They only post it to make themselves feel better about themselves or perhaps they are unaware and just running on the social programming script on autopilot.
Just ditch social media and you will feel better.
If you have real friends they will talk to you directly.

Try searching the term "suicide" on Pintrest sometime, if you want to get really pissed off. (Lack of the "rolleyes" emoji here is killing me.)

I really, really like this graphic, personally. As a rebuttal to a lot of the superficial rhetoric that gets passed around on social media.

The suicide hot line is the worst, they always pretend like they're helping but it's just because it's a trend or whatever. They don't care tho, I've never heard a time where those dumb hotlines actually helped someone. Only read bad experiences

yeah whenever I've been in crisis i don't want to have to explain m whole story to some stranger because how is that gonna help.

and hypothetically, if these hotlines did work, I'm gonna google the number not check out someones fuckin insta story

i dont know if anyone is gonna fight me on this, but sharing quotes/posts about x and y illness does NOT automatically indicate you're just as depressed as the ones that don't do that kinda shit online. looking back, i shouldnt have done those things on facebook, because right now, i just realized my situation before wasn't so depressing compared to now (and im guessing i was following the trend, and i thought it would help me project my feelings somehow, but i just figured i should've distracted myself). ive seen literal kids share tiktoks of them breaking down to a sad music in the background, and it just makes me wonder, "do depressed people really do this stuff? why are they showing that, then?" it's almost giving younger people a view - and misconception - about what suicidal people do on social media (because yes, they share stuff regarding that, too), when in fact, we don't out ourselves like that... idk if this is about suicide awareness on socmed, because i consider this to be one.
i fully agree with you there. when i was going through my worst times i wasn't thinking, ooh this'll make for good content on tiktok, because i was actually a little busy being depressed and suicidal.
it definitely gives a misconception because yes maybe these people are going through a hard time but what they are posting is romanticising depression because they want attention and views.
however people posting honest thoughts and experiences with their struggles i think is fine because that is actual awareness and can be informative to those who have never gone through anything too bad.
tho the jokey suicide tiktoks are funny because they aren't romanticising, they're just truthful and make me laugh

Much like anything on social media it's just something to share for likes and something to feed your fake online image. Like climate change posts like political posts if you care get off social media and make a change! This is the main reason I deleted all my social media because in the first few months of covid where suicide rates were going up there was a wave of dumb challenges and posts to fake support certain causes and I just couldn't hold myself back from commenting angrily on them so I just isolated myself from everyone. I would highly recommend coming off of social media it's extremely liberating I haven't looked back since and spent so much less time on my phone.
