i mean, why would you force someone to live a life they're being forced to live? it's almost like slavery, living at the mercy of other people and what they think is "right" in society. i support it being a day for awareness, but not a day of dumb campaigns where this gets romanticized. i hate people who make posts on social media about this day and are the worst people in the world when it comes to dealing with someone who's suicidal.

It's because stupid people want to be called a hero and they think interfering with someone's attempt to be free from their suffering is heroism.

They want just another reason to feel good about themselves.

i hate it when there are people suffering in the street and anti-homeless architecture and claims on nature meaning society is telling homeless people:

So... people shouldn't be able to die, but they also can't even sleep on the street on in a park.

It's completely hypocritical. Anti-suicidal awareness days are to make normal people feel better, not to improve things for suicidal people or actually stop suicide. It's "Normie Let's Pretend We're Doing Something So We Can Feel Better Day!"

I think the message of suicide prevention day is an important one, but the villainization & romanticism of suicidal people is absolutely not okay.

It can be very important to reach out to the others and remind them that resources can be available- especially to those who aren't aware that help is an option. For example: I work in a community outreach medical clinic. Most of the people we interact with are underserved and neglected minorities (drug addicts, the unhoused, convicts/ex-convicts). We have plenty of patients in mental health crisis that feel as if suicide is the only option to their situation because they were never offered help or other resources. Sometimes, when our outreach team offers detox/safe housing and other programs, those previously neglected individuals change their mind.

Obviously I believe in the right to choose ending your life if you wish. I think it's an important right to have, and I would never force, romanticize, or villainize those who are suicidal or plan to ctb. If a person wishes to commit, I full-heartedly support their personal autonomous wishes if they feel it is best.

I just wish that suicide prevention day wasn't so….. marketed toward forcing 'help' on those who don't want it. It's important to offer resources and spread awareness for the folks who may not truly want to ctb or have never been extended help. However, it's not okay to shove that help/awareness onto people who don't want it.

Suicide prevention isn't for everyone, simple as that.

ya, that's what i'm saying. prevention helps for those who need it.
but it's made almost like a day AGAINST suicidal ppl and not like a day that is simply preventive. it's almost like an anti-suicide discourse.

Definitely. Society is all about quantity over quality. They don't care how miserable our lives are, just that we continue living them. A merciful society would allow us to end them on our own terms. Then again, a merciful society wouldn't create and perpetuate most of the things that make us suicidal in the first place!

In ancient greece it was commonplace at most pharmacies to sell poisons. The intention was that if you wanted too you could ctb if you wanted it was your right (although the slave class didn't have this right). It seems this concept starting too change when Abrahamic religions started taking over.

How would they deal with people who want to use poison to kill others? If it's that easy to get a hold of then how did they go about preventing people from poisoning other's dishes (aside from the wealthy getting a slave to taste it first)?
