Hello everybody, I'm not rich or anything but I have some savings. I've never really travelled alone (far away) and I'm 38 years old. I was thinking to travel in summer to somewhere new, maybe Canada (I'm from Brazil). I have a romantic and naive vision that Canada is a safe country with nice and welcoming people . I have problem with depression maybe agoraphobia so it would have to be a small town, maybe in the countryside near those beautiful lakes that are on tv. Anyway I'm just dreaming thinking about escaping my shitty life without ctb.

Any suggestions?

There are many beautiful places to visit in Canada. The lakes in Ontario are beautiful as are the Rocky mountains in Alberta. British Columbia and Quebec have beautiful forests.

However, travel produces it own stresses and every town has its own unique composite personality. If you are targeting small towns, you might consider that they often are either focused on their church or their bar. If you want a more cosmopolitan flavor, you might consider a college town.

You might not want to expect too much from a new environment as real lasting change usually comes from within.

I know nothing about Canada but I've always wanted to visit Nova Scotia. It looks like there is plenty of things to do outdoors. I once knew someone who lived in Halifax and they really liked it.

British Columbia is beautiful but prone to fires and high costs.

I don't know much about the East (maritimes) but from what I've heard it's affoardable, quiet, and pleasant

The best advice I can give is to start with the internet. Each province and territory has its charms and drawbacks. A lot of folks underestimate just how harsh the climate can be, especially in winter, in some areas. North especially.

Canada definitely is safer than many places, but big cities are big cities. Housing is ridiculously expensive, atm. You would ideally need wheels—I can't tell you how many folks come to BC in the morning, expecting to be in Toronto by lunch. Canada is huge.

Canadians are friendly, but not in-your-face friendly like Americans. We're a little more reserved. But we're certainly not cold or anything like that.

Also, I'm sure there are Brazilian-Canadian communities, for sure in TO, that might be a good place to reach out to with questions. Someone there might be able to hook you up.

Saskatchewan is pretty peaceful, bitter cold, hot summers, low population. Diverse community with the University of Saskatchewan offering free scholarships to international students.

From what I've heard Canada is super expensive. Good luck.
