People asking how your day is going. I could be having a horrible day (pretty much every day these days) and i will respond with "great thanks". The person asking the question doesn't want to know the real answer (nor do i want to share). The expectation is that you say "great" and then there is a role reversal where you ask them how their day is going and they respond with "great". This is a daily thing.

I fucking hate this ritual. It just seems so unnecessary. At least passive aggressive mind games serve a purpose. For people who find this ritual effortless, do they really feel more comfortable afterward, or is it as perfunctory and arbitrary as it seems?
