Detroit: Become Human is awesome.
LIfe Is Strange, the first one.
Heavy Rain is a bit older and less polished but still good.

Needy Streamer Overload, not indie but eh, i like.

Omori, basic n probably already played, gud game.

Mother 3..not fantastic art, but 8-bit brings back childhood memories :)

Im not sure if spiritfarer is indie, but this game is amazing. The game is drawn with great attention to detail, smooth animations, interesting story about spirits telling you about their lives as you guide them through their last adventure

Gris is a great one too, made in a mixed media style and a unique watercolor touch to it, many people described the graphics as interactive pieces of art, with the cutscenes looking amazing 1686436990612
If youre looking for a longer game- spiritfarer is the better choice, but honestly i would not be able to describe one of them as being better, as they both have their own unique atmospheres, telling a different story though both visual and musical ways

I would recommend Might & Delight's paws and shelter series but survival aspect of the shelter games may be distressing.

surprised no ones mentioned Stray yet!

not indie and 15+ years old, but i feel contractually obligated to mention Shadow of the Colossus for ps2 when people ask for emotional, more artsy games.

idk if it fills the bill, but I've really enjoyed Saya no Uta: The Song of Saya
it's incredibly graphic and dark, so trigger warnings here
but it's also incredibly well written, a great visual novel
