Recently the taiwan custom is going to approve the import of potatoes that are sprouted from teh united states. This has caused an uproar in the taiwan society as we know once potatoes have sprouted, they are poisonous containing the toxic glycoalkaloids.

In some of the news, it was mentioned that eating as little as two or three such sprouted potatoes can kill you. If this is true, it will be a very easy available method though the process may not be so peaceful.

Anybody has any ideas about this? What do you all think ?

Well shit, I am not from the US, but eat sprouted potatoes all the time.. I just cut the sprouts off and cook them as usual. I think you'd need a lot more then 2-3 of them lol.. If that actually worked I'd have died ages ago. :pfff:

It only kills in very rare cases. I personally have never heard of any deaths by eating sprouted potatoes. At most, you'll get sick for a couple of days and that's it.

Of course, not those young sprouted one, but those sprouted for a while and greenish color around the spots. Exactly which is the poisonous one, i seriously have no idea. /

Imagine if this is workable , you all dont have to worry about availability , cost, custom check.

Potatoes everywhere....

It is not. As per my research, the glycoalkaloids present in sprouted potatoes are not enough to kill a person. Sure, accidents happen, but it doesn't produce consistent results so I'd consider it a non-method. Potatoes belong to the nightshade (solanaceae) family of plants. Even one of the deadliest member of that family - atropa belladonna is not that poisonous. Heck, people even put in in their meds. Another one of these is datura which despite of being infamous for it's toxicity, is used for recreational purposes. And I haven't even started on how slow and agonizing the death would be.

These plants are fairly poisonous for a normal person and they should be wary of them but for someone who's actively looking to die, it's not a reliable method. I think that's the deal with most non methods people propose here. It's gonna harm your body and for the general public it's better to just call it "lethal" to scare them off instead of explaining it's dangers. But it is NOT for us.

Do not waste your time digging into it further, please. I know there's been problems with SN availability amd welfare checks lately but there are still better methods out there.

oh, too bad, how disappointing.

This would be my preferred method if workable. Imagine eating baked potatoes, fries, fish n chips to CTB. isn't that wonderful ?

Truly a wonderful way to ctb! The only thing that comes close is N. You can ever eat chocolate or anything you'd like after ir because it tastes like shit lol. It wouldn't affect you death at all. Too bad N is practically impossible to get...

I did a little bit of research (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong of course) but this doesn't seem like too big a deal. This change allows for the potato shipments containing sprouted potatoes to be accepted and then sorted properly into usable vs unstable ones at designated processing facilities instead of rejecting the entire shipment outright. Seems like a reasonable cost saving, food saving, and time saving measure. Perhaps there's wider political reasons I'm simply missing since I am not Taiwanese, but at the very least this doesn't seem like an agreement made with malicious intent.
