To those who believe in therapy and feel the need to judge others who don't:

Why would anyone want to risk talking to a stranger about their problems who likely doesn't give a shit and only wants money, and can get you possibly put in a place "MENTAL HOSPITAL" that is sometimes worse than prison if you're too honest? lol, they payoff doesn't seem worth it to me.

Therapy is certainly a scam, the whole industry exists only to profit from suffering. I will never understand why someone would waste their time with that anyway, it could never possibly be beneficial, words don't solve real problems or change the fact that life is awful.

Psych wards sound like horrific places, that is why it's never a good idea to be open about suicide as we exist in a society that punishes suicidal people and treats them so badly for simply wanting to leave behind a life that they never asked for which the suicidal person has every right to do. It's annoying when people see being suicidal as an illness and acts like therapy is the solution to it all, those types of people really are ignorant and are in denial of the fact that wanting suicide is a perfectly rational response to existing in this world.

Even putting aside how shitty it is that if you actually open up about your issues honestly you get sent off to the hospital, I hate the constant positivity and "therapy language." It feels so patronizing and condescending. I'm not a child, I'm a grown man with real shit to deal with, don't bombard me with empty platitudes and talk to me like I'm a kindergartener.

(I've had too much wine so forgive me if this message is a little odd lol)

I agree completely. And trust me, they are. I mean, the stigma of even having been to one is horrible. You feel like a dog. Worse than a felon to be honest. Everyone has a point they can reach that makes suicide a logical option for them. Society needs to accept this. Really, the thing I can say to most people to get them to understand my view point is imagine being sent to prison for life sentence? Hell, even just 10 years most people can't do. Then they get my view point a little bit, lol. It is an extreme example, but still.

As someone who has been to the ward like 10 times or so cuz of psych meds prescriptions I can tell it's absolute hell they significally harm more than help and ruined many lives including mine certainly

Two main reasons why I'll never truly open up to a therapist about my mental health, both stemming from the risk of involuntary commitment:

1) Being engulfed with tens of thousands of dollars of medical debt, plus a general loss of autonomy and the social stigma that could ensue.
2) Losing permanent access to some of the most effective methods to ctb with.

Not worth the risk. Having the means to exit at any moment is so much more comforting and makes it easier to keep going. Losing access and the feeling of really being trapped in this life would make me go insane. If I didn't have to worry about those risks, maybe I'd be more open to actually participating in therapy.

Therapy can help some people. But I don't think the problems of most people here are "therapy problems". Furthermore, the people here tend to be way more thoughtful and reflective than average, many members impressively so. That greatly diminishes, if not negates, the unique utility that therapy offers (or is claimed to do). In other words, given that therapy isn't free, there's nothing a therapist will say that will be worth their fee.

Thank you. I am in no way trying to insult people who do believe in therapy, just trying to get the ones who talk down on the ones who don't to see my view point. I agree that it can help some people. I just feel at the end of the day we need to respect those who don't want to be in therapy. It doesn't sound nice or loving, but we should come to terms with the fact that some people are beyond saving.

Oh, therapy not only failed to be of any assistance to me, but it ruined my life in the way you described. I wish I had not given a single cent or spent a single second on it. Unfortunately, I was shoved into it at a very young age and only relatively recently got away from it after having been steeped in it for so long.

Me personally, opening up helps. I genuinely feel like them sending people to a mental ward is a last resort thing for most, at least I can say for the place I've been, I didn't feel like I was going to be locked in one. I will agree that I don't think mental wards help at all, I think they could exacerbate the situation. Obviously I know this question wasn't meant for me, I haven't done therapy in a while, and I don't judge others for not wanting it, but I wanted to put my input here.

I definitely understand the viewpoint of others here, and with the wrong therapist, it could be awful.
