I was just searching reddit and came across this from two years ago:

Someone in the UK ordered nitrogen online. The store phoned them to ask what it was for, and apparently didn't buy the person's answer (they don't give details of the convo).

This person then got a police visit as a result. Police basically checked they were still alive then left.

So, yeah. Just thought I should pass this info on for people who may be considering doing this. Be prepared with a believable explanation in case the store calls. The person in the post says they "folded" when asked why they wanted the nitrogen, so maybe it wouldn't have been an issue if they kept it together, sounded confident etc

Most of these UK Police visits are really just box ticking exercises to cover themselves in case we ctb after they have been informed by a third party (the supplier, presumably, in the case of the OP).
Unless you've barricaded yourself in the house with a hostage and a crossbow, or are daft enough to say you're going to kill yourself the cops aren't usually that interested. Just look normal, pretend you're researching background for a novel or something and you're fine.

The police are not a medical service, I think they get too much flak. Most are good officers, of course there are some bad apples in every basket.

The government doesn't care one bit about suicide here so they cut the crisis teams funding by almost 70% in the past decade. Now untrained police officers have to try their best.

I have had some very good police, paramedics and doctors over the years. I don't blame them one bit for my health. 100% of the blame goes with this evil pro suicide government who cut all help services to the bone.

That is extreme cruelty, I despise this prison like hellish anti-suicide society where people cannot just have the option die in peace, it disgusts me how suicide is pretty much viewed as a crime.

I ordered from a Canadian seller back in Feb 2023 - I received 2 visits from the cops since then, first in April 23 then September 23. I convinced them the second time around that I'm ok and on the right track to recovery so I hope that will be the end of them coming.

Completely disagree with this. When I was in secondary school, the second time I got robbed at knife point I went to police station (I was in year 8) and they couldn't care less. The other two knife robberies I didn't even bother.
Over 30 had my car stolen in broad daylight off the driveway. Again. Police didn't care and the car had a tracker. I don't know how anyone can trust these organisations when they are all corrupt and politically motivated. Bunch of cunts the lot of them.
Don't believe my personal experiences? Here quite a lot on camera:

Man, you people are messed up in the UK. I mean it sucks here in the US, too, but wtf? How is buying nitrogen illegal or warranting welfare checks? What are the going to do next, start welfare checking people who buy charcoal or small metal buckets? They have nothing better to do? This shit has reached the point of stupid.

I assume they're talking about KL who sold SN and was a popular source (IC), his real name was Kenneth Law and has been covered in several news articles and even has a Wikipedia page.

'It has asked forces across the country to carry out welfare visits to addresses which may have received parcels, though it is not clear how many are involved.'

I get where you are coming from, but we are all talking about using it as a method on here xD

My posting wasn't a commentary debating whether using nitrogen as a method is good or bad......I made a comment about getting stupid welfare checks in the UK for trying to buy nitrogen, which is on topic for this thread. The OP is about someone getting a welfare check for trying to purchase nitrogen. If you're talking about using nitrogen as a method, you went off topic from what this thread started as.

The big problem, as I experience it here in the UK, is more the very 'woke' and controlling liberal administrations we have in Wales and Scotland. As well as the overall Westminster national government.
They don't so much want to do good, as look as if they were doing good. So, whilst mental health (and most medical) services are slashed and funding withdrawn, the likes of the Police get instructed to make follow up checks if alerted to importation of certain chemicals/substances by Customs or other National Police Agencies.
No one really expects the cops to do anything, it's just so politicians can say that their hands are clean if there is any adverse publicity later on because someone ctb and relatives make a fuss.

Ah my bad I didn't communicate clearly. I wasn't saying you were off topic. I was saying that, given the UK's current perspective on suicide, triggering a welfare check when someone buys a product being discussed as part of a method fits. Basically I was trying to be humorous along the lines of: this discussion and which board it's happening on kind of legitimises their actions (again under the current system).
