Has anyone tried SNRIs? I was prescribed venlafaxine (37.5mg) today. I've only tried SSRIs. Are SNRIs better? I took my first dose earlier today, and I'm kind of scared.

I was on venflaxine several years ago. Obviously everyone is different but I didn't have any adverse effects. Can't remember why I moved off it TBH. Best thing to do is judge how it affects you and your body and ignore everyone else's experience. You've got this.

I took 300 mg venlafaxine for over 10 years. To be fair I don't know if it worked. Maybe at the start it did but I switched meds a few months ago that also don't work.

Just wait the 6 weeks it takes for them to work and see. Don't expect wonders.

Took 300mg venlafaxine for 4 years. No effects at all. It works on some people though.
As the poster above me said, wait 6 weeks and you'll have a clearer idea whether it works or not, and don't expect wonders.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll see how the next few weeks pan out. I woke up this morning feeling quite dizzy, so hopefully the initial side effects subside soon.

i was on both and they didnt work on me. SSRI had side effects on me and SNRI didn't but they also didn't rlly help me. but i think it rlly depends bc some ppl say it helps them.

It did help me after a week or two. I had extra anxiety at the beginning. Then it got combined with mirtazapine and I stopped the ven. Now I am confused. I'd say definitely try it

SNRIs just work on slightly different signalling molecules in your brain. Just like SSRIs, they work for some people and don't for others. Even different SNRIs may work differently for you. As others have said, give it some time to do its thing and see how you feel. Venlafaxine takes a while to get going too (8 weeks, I think. Most meds are 6)

One bit of advice is do NOT cold turkey venlafaxine if you don't like it. Withdrawals are a bitch.
