Discussion Should people with depression/suicidal thoughts become parents?

Nobody should procreate ever. It's an incredibly selfish and disturbing thing to inflict this life onto other beings. The non existent have no problems and no suffering, they cannot worry about anything or experience pain. Creating life is creating unnecessary torment. The truth is that life shouldn't ever have evolved, as there is no benefit to existing in any way.

This is why I've chosen not to have kids , it would be selfish and irresponsible if I brought kids into a world that I hate and want to leave.

Just a quick thought I had, would like to hear different opinions on this.

I never wanted to have children because of this. However, my wife wanted them. So, I gave her one (and only one, thank you). She was convinced that would lift my depression.

It didn't.

And here I am 13 years later, becoming more resolute about this decision. Only thing holding me back right now is her adolescence. I am trying to just "be there", as a father is expected to, for her (even though I've already lost her in my mind).
