I've been contemplating taking one final road trip all over the US to see the parts I've never seen before and possibly meet a few people along the way just to experience some more nice people in life before I go. I've traveled a lot when I was young and have seen most of the Southern US states but I've only been as far West as Arizona and North as Kansas.

I'll probably never come back home as I'll ctb somewhere on my road trip. Maybe I can find a very secluded spot with a beautiful view to ctb.

The question is should I actually do a road trip like this or should I just ctb and leave all my money to family to help them with funeral expenses and just life after I'm gone. There's pros and cons to either choice but there's not a definite answer for me so I'd like advice.

Side note if this impacts anything but I have nearly 2 months of paid time off I can take with no notice needed.

I've thought about doing this too. One last hurrah. Personally idgaf about my family and they feel the same about me so I wouldn't worry about helping them. I have extended family that I love though and would like to make it easy as possible on them when I ctb, fourtently they are in a good position so none of my resources would necessarily benefit them. It's your life and I would do what makes you happiest, if you think the cost won't impact them negatively then I'd say go for the trip. If you have a good relationship with them maybe you could find a way to still travel but also leave a good portion of money behind. Examples of this are jobs where you travel and get paid, like white water rafting, skiing etc. You could also maybe fly places or save up a bunch of non perishable food and sleep in the car. Some countries also have good conversion rates with their currencys, you could live like a king or queen in a different country for a bit maybe. Idk, good luck with whatever you choose to do, wishing you peace

I'm not close with family but they're going to be the one dealing with the expenses which is why I'm hesitant. I've always loved traveling so I feel like ending with one would feel better than doing it at home in my room. This would be something I'll do sooner than later so I don't think switching jobs is necessary especially since I have enough paid time off. I'll probably camp out in one of my vehicles since I've done that before and didn't hate it. I will stay in the US due to not having a passport and just being familiar with the culture and all of those aspects.

Thank you for the feedback and how in depth you got with everything!

If I decide to go on the trip I'll probably take you up on this :)

I would definitely go for it.
I live in the UK and flew to New York a few years ago and bought a greyhound bus pass.
I travelled all over the place with not much money and eventually ended up in Toronto Canada.
I roughed it a lot, mainly sleeping in very cheap hostels but it was something I never regret doing.

Can you do a bit of both? Are there enough funds for that? Leave enough for a funeral/cremation but still get to travel? I think you should do the trip if you can. Why not? It's your last chance to enjoy the parts of being human that are good. I'd like to see and say goodbye to some places too. I hope you have a good time.

It sounds like you think you can still experience joy from life if you desire visiting new places and meeting new people. That seems contradictory to sincerely being ready for CTB.

You can still find joy in the short term and still need to CTB though. Would OP enjoy traveling, having no responsibilities and not having to worry about the future? Probably. Would all of OP's life be like that? No. For one, it's not financially sustainable. OP's going to have to go back to his life eventually and presumably that's what he's trying to avoid by ctb-ing.
Anyway I think you should go for it, OP. One last hurrah.

Somewhat but not that much mainly because both my vehicles get terrible gas mileage so a trip across the country would take up a good chunk of my money (there will still be a few thousand in savings I won't touch but it's not enough to cover a funeral)

I'm probably going to take the trip though because it's going to be the last bit of my life so I might as well enjoy it.

Could you hire something more economical? I guess that would end up being just as much though. Yeah- I think you should do it. If your family can't pay, I'm sure the state helps out with funerals etc.

When it comes to CTB location though- maybe that is worth thinking about. One member considered CTB overseas but saw how complicated and costly it would be for his family to obtain his body that he decided against it. I guess it's different if you remain in the same country. Honestly, I don't know how these things work though.

As much as that could be true it's not for me. This would just be reminiscing my life both good and bad. We can have dreams and desires but they're not attainable or there's other reasons we want to ctb. I appreciate the thought but some of us can still be ready to ctb while enjoying life while still here as much as possible at least. Like many have said one last hurrah.

I do have an economy car if absolutely needed but I let my mom drive it since she usually drives a lot more than me and I'm just not great at driving a manual still (typical US driver lol)

I do plan to ctb out of state though regardless of the trip or not so they'll either find a way to cover the cost or I'll get buried with all the other unknown people in a mass grave. Thankfully a lot of funeral homes will help or even give free transportation of the body within reason of course. I guess that's a road that they'll cross once I ctb

Well, you're better than me. I had lessons but never got round to a test. I was a menace! Kinder to everyone that I remain a pedestrian.

Yes if that is what you want. If I were you I would definitely take the opportunity to do so it does sound like a nice way to go, ultimately, it's your decision.

Go ahead i said. It's not a bad idea trying to do some fun stuff before commiting ctb, cause we don't know what is happening after we die, so better to fill your memory with a pleasant trip

If you can enjoy it , do it but it would be nice to leave enough money for funeral expenses.

Personally I wouldn't do it because i almost dont enjoy anything anymore , so i would leave all my money to me friends and family. My testament is already made.

I'm planning a little home-coming party for myself before I go, I definitely think you should go out and see and enjoy as much as you can regardless if you do or don't plan on going through with it.

I think this is a profoundly good idea.

Leave videos & photos for your close kin. Embrace the road trip. Then find your sweat escape..

No it isn't. CTB on a high, most dower types moan and never get around to CTB. There's many ways to skin a rabbit.

I realized they can just sell my vehicles to cover the cost so I'm not worried about the cost of a funeral.
