Shotgun suicide: Side of head vs Mouth

Hey everyone,

So I'm planning on CTB in about 10 days. I've been thinking about this for months and I think it's just about time. From the start my plan was to use a shotgun to try to ensure I succeed. I have everything I need now, I have the shotgun and I just bought some rifled hollow point slugs. I'm really scared but like I said it's about time I think.

My question is that I don't know exactly where to do it. I know where NOT to do it. I know under the chin and at the temples are very very bad ideas as the chance of survival is relatively high there. I've been thinking about doing it at the side of my head, just above the ear, as In ill fold my ear down to place the barrel at point blank range. However I've seen lots of people talk about putting in the shotgun through the mouth to ensure hitting the brain stem. That's my target anyway but through the mouths seems risky to me because if you miss the brain stem I feel like you won't hit much else that could kill you and you could survive. Through the side of the head seems like it'll at least get the both sides of the brain.

Like I said I'm really scared and I don't want to do it but I'm in a position where I don't really have any other choice. That's why I'm asking this question here. Thanks and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Yeah, personally I would use buckshot bullets through the mouth. I heard that's the perfect combo. Anyways, needless to say I carry your same sentiments.

A shot in any part of head is highly effective, my idea is to aim between eyes or mouth.

Yes, in the mouth. Not totally up, but approx 20 degrees up from horizontal is the current understanding. More info in the firearms megathread

When you buy a shotgun, remember to check that the trigger isn't more than arms length away. And that the barrel can fit comfortably in the mouth

lol I just imagine you are being shown a gun by the clerksman and you casually fit it into your mouth to see if its comfortable

Thanks. I've seen this picture before and It makes sense. Looking at this way it definitely makes sense but my concern is that's while maybe I can nail the elevation I don't know how I'd be able to get right on target. If I'm too much left or right I feel like all I'll do is blow a hole in the back of my head. If I aim too low through the mouth, or too much to the sides, maybe all I'll do is paralyze myself.

Lol. It wasn't exactly like that but when he asked if I wanted to look at long barreled or short barreled I knew it would have to be the short barrel ones so I could reach the trigger. It felt really weird tho, I love guns and there I was just talking and making conversation with this guy even though I knew what I want to do with this gun. Makes me wonder how many other people out there seems fine and talk as if everything is ok and then they go and CTB too or think about it.

I would say mouth. I think aiming from side is just hard. better grip and positioning with mouth.

History shows that anything outside the head can miss if you flinch when pulling the trigger. By miss I mean scouring off whatever is on the outside of your head where you were aiming. Not a good scenario.
In the mouth will take you out. Not great for everyone else, but you will have succeeded.
