alternatives to cutting? i remember seeing a thread here where someone would pour some substance into their eyes to cause burning. i accidentally went through this sort of pain recently from something unrelated and it really stuck with me. cutting is my primary method right now but because of the summer heat i cant wear jackets or pants all the time.

cutting my thighs rather than my arm works but it isnt hitting the same. the only thing i get out of it is the burning sensation afterwords thats really euphoric to feel on my thighs. i've been having stronger impulses to SH more lately and want to "treat" myself rather than feeling like i have to compensate. im open for any ideas, but i'd like to identify how to cause pain/ a burning feeling into my eyes more reliably if possible without blinding myself

I used to cut and self-harm a lot back then. I still do, but I can't cut anymore. So here are a few alternatives if you can't either:

  • Scratching: a good alternative. If you have a cat (or cats), nobody will question it.
  • Pulling out hair / waxing. I remember some girls on shtwt used to do that.
  • Burning (lighter, cigarette, eraser, hot shower). Cons: it leaves marks (except for a hot shower, although your skin will be red), hurts a lot, takes a long time to heal, and you have to be careful with aftercare to avoid infection, just like with cutting.
  • Bruising / slapping yourself / hitting yourself / whipping yourself. Cons: it also leaves marks, but they usually fade fairly quickly. It heals pretty fast and generally doesn't hurt after a day.
→ You can also use the rubber band method: snap a rubber band against your wrist.
  • Biting / pinching.
  • Piercing yourself, kind of like acupuncture. Cons: you need to know a bit about anatomy to avoid piercing something important, like an artery or a nerve, because first of all, it will hurt a lot.
  • Cold exposure (holding ice cubes, taking very cold baths). Cons: extreme cold can feel intensely burning at first, but after a while you get used to it. It doesn't leave any marks. Personally, it helped during severe suicidal crises, but make sure to warm yourself up properly afterward.
  • Or any other methods that hurt you, such as starving yourself for days, making yourself sick on purpose, breaking bones, blablabla..
But no matters what you chose. Do a propre aftercare after ! Anyone deserve that at least
