Games Sengoku (An Animated Short)

Hi everyone,

There isn't many things I am proud of, but my many years of dicking around with animation software has somehow turned into a source of relative contentment for me.

I would like to share with you my first long-form animation, one that I quite happy with the result of.
Apart from an apathetically dispositioned family, I have no one to share this with. So here I am.

 

[Lost in a Nightmare]

I'm about halfway through this animation and I'm loving it so far. The sword fights and the campfire burning were some of my favorite parts from what I've seen. Also, that laugh at 3:07 was hilarious. "Huhuhuhu". I know where it comes from too, the metrocops from Half Life 2. Love your use of the sound effects from that game as well.

I just finished watching the animation. I won't spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't watched it yet but damn did I love this.

Yes its exactly the metrocops! Sounds and models stolen from all sorts of places. The samurai are from Sekiro, and some hit sounds near the end are from DBZ! Haha I'm incredibly glad you like it!! Thank youuu, one of my idols in animation has always been Monty Oum (late creator of RWBY) and his entire niche was fight choreography so I've always tried to make cool fight scenes. Again, couldn't be happier to hear someone praise it, thank you!

it kinda made me remember that the sengoku period was probably a lot more like this than the romanticized depictions I always imagine when I think of it~ :(

Thank you so much! I haven't thought of this project for some time now, but it makes me kinda happy that at least some people like it. And yess I love reading about the periods of Japan. The 'plot' in my mind is literally just 'warrior from one faction sees men from two other factions fighting, takes the opportunity to take out a few before throwing his life away' because that's essentially how arbitrary most of the Sengoku Jidai brutality was. I once had inspiration to make an animation about Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings, and animating the various sword techniques, but I haven't really gotten around to it.

I've always wanted to do animation. This must have taken so much work!

About a full month and many rendering headaches. I used free software that you can run on basically any computer; its called Source FilmMaker. You should give it a try! I would say the process is a lot more rewarding than the end product, like the actual flow of "holy shit I can make WHATEVER I want and make it as cool as I want". It's about the only thing I have that brings me some contentment, biggest issue is my pc is now permanently broken and I've lost every single animation file I ever had ;(
