I've decided on a date.

I would like to put things in place to make things as easy as possible for my family. I wondering if I should quit my job before hand? So that my mother doesn't have to call my manager and explain anything, but it also means in this economy I have to be fully committed to CTB.

Also interested in what else I can do to make it as easy as possible for my family when I'm gone.
So far I've been making a list of subscriptions that I would need to cancel.

Don't resign. You'll just be putting pressure on yourself. You might not be ready when the moment comes.

This is tricky..
maybe do a prons and cons list first?
like one of the pros is your concern, that you'd spare your mom/family having to call your office and tell them you wont be reporting in anymore. I mean, the act alone is a reminder youre not there.
cons would be if you're not successful, then you'd need a job again, but this time with added medical bills prior to getting a new job.
Personally, the only logical way i'd handle this is to adjust my date, save up enough first, probably about 3 months worth of salary.
This way If i'd fail, i have a back up funds to at least take some worry off, try to get myself back together. If i succeed i'd have left a sum for my family.
This...requires a lot more sacrifice from you though.

Oh yeah.. don't leave.. because if you cant get it done.. you'll have no job.. your mom can have the cops call your work.. being out of work and struggling financially will only compound every single problem on top of problems.. money is the number one way to get suicide done though. But its brutal.. money is probably the number one reason people off themselves..

I really dont think it's a good idea to quit, what if your not successful with ctb? You'll be without any income unless you have some money saved to cover your Bill's for a few months until you find employment again.

Also does your company have a 'death in service payment'? Your family may be award a payment if you die, not sure if suicide would be eligible for this payment though.

Thanks you have given me something to think about.
I doubt I'll have medical bills if I survive, in my country it is a mix between private and public health care. The closest hospital is a public one.

I live in a third world country, the cops aren't going to call anyone. I had a friend whose uncle committed suicide by hanging he said everything is mostly left to the family unless they suspect foul play.

No death in service payment, but you all have given me some things to definitely consider and do more planning.

i wouldn't leave personally, it puts too much pressure on yourself approaching the date and if anything does go wrong and you fail, or if you find you aren't ready yet, you may be stuck with no stability in terms of income.

Not sure if it's possible but you could always schedule send an email to your manager and say you are sick and unable to call in. Then you could always leave instructions to your family to let the police liaison with your employment. Although the first part depends on how your place of employment works of course.
