there are a lot of suicidal parents of minors on SS. A lot of people have an history of mental illnesses (depression, anxiety or suicidal ideations) and wake up one day and succumb to the social pressure and decide to have children regardless of their mental issues.

If you think about it, it's just as irresponsible as someone with a genetic disease deciding to reproduce regardless of their disease (it happens a lot too..). It's just as fucked up. But society fails completely to see that.

If you have a solid history of mental illness, why chose to gamble with your unborn child's life? Something good might have happened in your life and you decided life might not be that bad and you dice to try having a child... it's a common trap people fall into. It's wishful thinking and it's a momentary lapse of judgement.

There are many things you could do instead of having a child:

- you could get plastic surgery.
- you could practice body building.
- you could get a partner and big house (childfree marriage).
- you could travel.
- you could afford N or expensive euthanasia in Switzerland.
- you could become a surgeon or a mortician or some other cool career and thrive in it.
- you could freely contribute to ruining the earth's ressources (water, plants etc) without having to worry about the next generation. sorry for being blunt :(.
- you could get nice things like designer bags etc.
- you could engage in things considered depraved (like selling your body for money or doing drug) without worrying about social responsibility and things like that. I don't personally like these ideas but it could help convince some people.

Ressources and communities online:

Disclaimer: I don't think the law should involve itself in people's decision to have a child. If people are irresponsible enough to want a child despite them being clearly inadequate, they should be able to in my opinion. I don't like Governements. Governements bad.

Most of that sounds way too difficult and/or expensive to me, I'd rather just kill myself while I can before my lizard brain eventually forces me to want to reproduce at all costs. Even though the end result of that would also be difficult/expensive, said lizard brain isn't going to care because that's what it's programmed to do. All of this makes sense, but if humans as a whole actually cared about doing what makes sense, we'd all be dead already, which I'm not saying is a bad thing but I doubt this stuff will convince anyone who doesn't already believe it.

My depression made me understand life and turned me into an antinatalist (not necessarily childfree). I consider bringing a child into this world as condemning him/her to life imprisonment followed by the death penalty. I will not procreate and increase suffering in this world.

By the way, antinatalists need not be childfree. There is always the option of adoption for those antinatalists who want to have children. There are so many babies/children in desperate need of loving parents and an antinatalist who wishes to be a parent can always adopt.

I don't want to get into this again but I'm going to anyway. Some of the nicest people I've met here are parents because it generally makes people better since they're no longer the most important person in their life. I say this as someone who's parents were fucking useless however. I don't resent them for having me though. I liked my life up to a point. I wouldn't want kids because I don't want the responsibility which I suspect is many others reason to. Those that do more power to them. Who the fuck am I or any of us to be looking down our noses as morally superior? Ask yourself what you've contributed to the world. What others do is none of our business unless it directly impedes on our own lives which it does not

I'll always say no to having children. The earths population is too high, and I'd be spreading bad genes. It would be an amoral decision. If I had a time machine I'd go back and slaughter my parents. The amount of pain they've caused by bringing me here. Absolute wankstains

Well as a child who inherited mental illness and brought up in a shitty environment I concur. You never see shows or articles talking much about this subject. What a sad world we live in.

This feels very personal to me. AFTER my parents were married, my mother told my father "we don't have to have children"....so he snaps back "what do you think I got married for". (Brilliant life planning) Consequently, I inherited maternal Anxiety/depression causing me to search for drugs that worked and affected desperation in career and personal life. Ridiculous !!

which is why I added that disclaimer.
I'm in my right to stigmatise and judge others by the choices they make. As long as I don't force them to do anything, I'm entitled to my opinion and I have a right to preach my convictions.

Vasectomy is like $1000 or less without insurance. Practically free with. And doctors don't have any problem performing these compared tubal ligation for women.

#1 childfree people are happier.
#2 we are morally superior. Actually just superior, no qualifiers needed.
#3 it is my business since my taxes pay for those kids education and healthcare.

I became antinatalist after having a child. This world is a tough place and I can only hope she never experiences mental health issues or major traumas.

I don't think that decision would fly by my lizard brain, unless I've already had children unfortunately. Plus I don't even have a $1000 or useful insurance

I'm glad you can be honest about not feeling totally in control of your own mind when it comes to reproduction. I made this post for people like you because I'm in the same situation, sometimes my brain randomly tries to convert me and it takes me a lot of courage to say NO.

A reminder to everyone is that it's normal from moments to moments to seriously consider and even try to plan for children. The key is the remain alert and conscious that these are momentary lapses of judgement and you can do nothing but wait until it passes. Every times it comes back, the voice will be more convincing. Just stay alert and allow yourself to fantasise but never buy into that bs.

It doesn't have to be a handbag obviously, it can be a pair of shoes. If you don't like plastic surgery you could still buy a lot of expensive make up also.

I get that everybody on here is seeking support as we battle our own demons.
However, unless you're being sarcastic (which can be difficult to pick up on online) I am shocked that your level of emotional maturity is such that you believe that buying a handbag, makeup, or a pair of shoes is equivalent to raising a child.

I won't have children even if I had great genes, this world is terrible and brings a lot of suffering.
As for the parents on this site, there are people who had children when everything was fine with them, and now they are suicidal

i'm sorry what? I think you misunderstand me.

It's not equivalent to raising a child since luxury items don't leave you traumatised.
You could adopt an abandoned child.
It's a good one too.
my issue with adoption is I don't like the idea of irresponsible people thinking "if everything fails, we can still put it (the baby) for adoption.

I was watching a documentary on garbage babies (it's in a different language unfortunately). It's about babies being found in dumpster or sewers later put for adoption. I'm not sure if the people who rescue these babies are doing the right thing.. it's a cplex topic I'd say. too much convoluted logic I'm afraid

I've seen conflicting evidence about nr 1. Nr 2 is fair enough on average, since I do believe having kids is immoral. But nr 3 is bizarre. You wouldn't have any money from which to pay taxes in the first place if people didn't have kids.

Ask yourself what you've contributed to the world.

Imo, none of us has to be held accountable to the world since it hasn't given us anything positive overall (obviously since we're all suicidal). With that said, I've never seen any kind of divinity in nature or the shitty rock we live on, but I know lots of people do. That's their right to do so, but I don't want them to impose their views.

Its actually both. It is ironic because as much as you could be aware that life is shit and you dont want to bring babies into it, when you see how adorable and enriching babies can make life be, somehow people forget about how life sucks. It is like being under a spell of denial. This is how the psychology of it work imo
