This diagnosis is such a pain in the ass, I don't even believe I have it. ASD is such a problematic label to begin with cuz of how general it is, the amount of incorrect assumptions people can make about someone based off a simple ASD diagnosis is nauseating, no I don't lack a theory of mind, how much of an animal do you fucking take me to be?

Families love autism especially, the perfect scapegoat to deny the fact they did a terrible job at child rearing or where even straight up abusive/neglectful. It's fucking disgusting how psychiatry thinks it can permanently brand someone with a diagnosis within a single meeting with them like they did me. It's just so obvious most of the "autism" cases today are just people with childhood trauma or circumstantial issues or damage of some kind, and I really don't get why the diagnosed themselves a lot of the time seem to WANT the diagnosis, why? It's by definition incurable, why would you want to believe your problem can never be cured?

Even if I have autism it isn't my main problem, trauma and circumstances are, but once you have the accursed diagnosis the mental health system just latches onto that and disregards everything else

Couldn't agree more. My family used a shady diagnosis to cover up their decades of abuse. Turns out I had C-PTSD thanks to them.

I agree with mostly everything hence why I refuse to get diagnosed with more stuff, but I don't think anyone "wants" autism—no one wants to be mentally ill and if they do they are already mentally ill to some degree. Most people just want to be appropriately accommodated and get actual help because the life they're living is miserable.

ASD is such a meaningless diagnosis as well because the spectrum is so massively large that one has to wonder what the lowest common denominator between all autistic people even is. It's effectively become a "kinder" way to call somebody retarded without the guilt of using a "bad" word. The conspriatorial part of my mind believes that psychs are just using this as a catch-all term to slap on people when they don't want to bother digging deeper into somebody's mental anguish.

I think merging all the various types of autism into ASD was a huge mistake. Getting diagnosed with it more often than not just leaves you with more questions than answers because of how broad and vague it is. I was lucky to get diagnosed with aspergers syndrome when I was a child. Unlike the vague ASD diagnoses, being diagnosed with aspergers answered a lot of questions in my life that would have otherwise been chalked up to me just being a weird person.

Autism is 100% a designer diagnosis nowadays. Most people online who claim to have it on social media, in my experience, aren't disabled in any meaningful way and they're Munchausen babies trying to cosplay as an oppressed minority. They can all suck it.

Yes...if ASD isn't your main problem, your ASD is somewhat mild. People with moderate to severe ASD...that is their main problem, for sure. Here's hope you can get care and support to help

I wanna get some diagnosis so at least I have a card to play when I'm treated like absolute garbage. So I can look at a piece of paper and feel some kind of self worth, to connect with others who also have this "member card" aswell. Although I believe I do have it (And I'm being gaslit into thinking I don't) I think it's somewhat useful to have this done. We'll know by next week when I'm given some type of diagnosis of something if it helped me in any way. I have a fantasy (real or not we need time to know), that It will help me in some way to turn things around...

Accurate, I was actually surprised seeing this thread because I swear every person who wants attention these days says they have autism.

What's gonna happen when everyone has autism and it's not special anymore? Inquiring minds want to know.

I question diagnoses of it a lot, including my own, as the medical industry is quite known to just broadly slap on labels to get a quick buck out of people; ironically, I was also victim of severe child abuse and bullying as a kid so the diagnosis is likely influenced by that.

I honestly don't see the point of such diagnoses when it seems as though unless it's severe, someone with ASD are able to grow up just fine even in a household that doesn't exactly 'accommodate' to it as long as it's a genuinely healthy environment.

I'd rather not admit such things to people outside of certain vent posts, as it only gets you branded as though you are a child of some kind.

there's invalidating posts in this thread.
there are people who unfortunately "fake" diagnoses sure but it's dangerous to focus on those niche cases, in a space such as sasu. I can assure you there's people with autism who may or may not "suffer" from it, but they do exist and also on this forum.
Be mindful in the future.
