Answer - Some non-religious arguments against euthanasia include: euthanasia would weaken society's respect for the value and importance of human life. Proper palliative care is available which reduces or removes the need for people to be in pain. It would lead to worse care for the terminally ill.

Im reading alot of stuff at the moment, and that was on the page I have just read, its not my question or answer.

What do people think about said answer though?

I don't agree with that, I think that 'care' often places someone in a kind of limbo and think that we need to stop favouring longevity over quality of life.

Thank you, i disagreed with this as well.

To be honest, it kind of puts carers out of work. Plus there are quite a few unpleasant carers who hit the people they are looking after.

This whole subject is discrimination at its finest and needs to be changed.

The movement in the UK called ''Dignity in dying'' does its fair share on this subject. I support them but more needs to be done.

The carers aren't getting paid a lot for the care imo, it all goes to profit for private care home owners. I wish that wages for carers were far higher, so it was a profession that attracted people. Same goes for teachers etc. Why should celebrities and footballers be paid millions for relatively valueless work, whereas professions with a human value have some of the lowest wages? Also it's hard work... paying next to nothing for it just increases likelihood of abuse.

The main thing euthanasia would mean is less profit for pharmaceutical companies, I suppose? Those responsible for pumping the suffering full of meds right up to the moment when they die...

I'll have to check that organisation out. I wish we were more like The Netherlands.

Yeah, carers deserve more, my mother is one. Ive been one before but home care. Tough job at times.

Ive said this for a long time now but if euthanasia was legal the population would drop by millions and the higher ups dont want that, who else would do their dirty work.

Hopefully if my operation goes well, i will sign up for the dignity in dying movement. You get to go to campaigns in your local area with other people. We need action ASAP to get this legalised. I just dont see it happening in the UK for at least 20 years and thats minimum :(

I agree with this. This has been my experience exactly. I just lost my Dad to cancer and the time from when the decided to die to his death was a week. He was pumped full of morphine and medazolam so he wasn't in any physical pain but it was clearly mental torture for him. This was confirmed when on about day four he was distraught and pleading to know why he wasn't dead yet. Yet he had to go through the slow process of starving and dehydrating himself to death because for some reason there is this belief that longevity trumps everything else in life.

that must of been awful, so sorry your father had to go through that.

''Because for some reason there is this belief that longevity trumps everything else in life'' too true sadly :(
