Help Question about going out by train

Is there a way I could find out when a train comes or goes a certain route? Like would it be possible to find some kind of schedule or something? I live near some train tracks but a train rarely ever comes. There's train tracks in the city that seems more active so that might be a preferable option? From what I've seen in general it's always some kind of cargo train which is why I ask. Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Ideally I'd be able to walk the tracks out of the city and into the middle of nowhere but I haven't checked. Of course so there's as least amount of exposure as possible.

depends on where you live but if there is passenger rail in your area there will be schedules/timetables online, some places may have public freight train schedules but i can't say for sure, your best bet may be tracking a package arriving via rail if that's a service that is offered

I already thought about it. I understand it's kind of frowned upon on here.

To be more transparent, it's the most favorable method for me at the moment but I am also open to other methods so it's not a guarantee that this will be what I go through with.
