My own medical use of nitroglycerin and a one time use of a long acting nitrite had a side effect of some of the worst headaches possible. I have chronic migraine, severe cluster headache and complex atypical 24/7 trigeminal neuralgia which is severe one sided facial pain, all 3 24/7 for over 30 years. Young healthy person pre-existing neurological problems may only have a mild headache.

Conclusion: I may order some as a backup plan. I personally would prefer nitrous oxide gas, argon, or possible "MAPP gas" which is actually propylene and is somewhat narcotic like nitrous.

Potassium nitrite is not widely used that's the difference though. Sodium nitrite is used in food processing so is easy to get with a bit of creativity.

Potassium nitrate is not the same as Potassium nitrite. Converting nitrate to nitrite is doable but not really for someone suicidal.

I was able to get access to potassium nitrite easier than SN, surprisingly - it's sitting in my closet now, but I've been seeing if I can get ahold of some SN soon instead before I use it. I guess I'm not sure why more people more people haven't considered it if the mechanism is the same, but if it's just a question of accessibility for others that makes sense.
