Ever since moving to a new city I have spent every holiday alone. I do get very sad about it. I used to spend it with my dog and make him special meals we ate together, but he's passed now. It's Thanksgiving now, and I'm just blankly staring at a video game feeling empty.

What do people who spend holidays alone do? Do you like being alone or with others during holidays?

I'm sorry you lost your companion. Holidays after a loss are difficult.

I prefer being alone but I still celebrate. I make myself good food, watch programming appropriate for the day, and enjoy that everyone else is too occupied to bother me. I make my own fun.

I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness so I never got to have any holidays or even my own birthday
So the days are just extra miserable

It sounds cozy. I wish I could learn to be this comfortable by myself.

Ah jeez. I am sorry. Have you celebrated anything since you're a little older? My best friend growing up was JW and I would sneak her candy and pretty things for Christmas and her birthday. Not being able to celebrate anything seemed so sad to me.

No I haven't I'm still stuck living with with them and I don't have any friends who give a fuck to take me out to celebrate
And celebrating alone is even more miserable and sad, I mean, it's a celebration it's supposed to be a merry band of people not just an army of one

I'm sorry about your dog passing, my own cat is ill with cancer and on end of life medication. Pet loss is devastating.

Otherwise for the holidays I generally get intoxicated and wait until it passes. Not advising this though, stay sober kids.

Honestly, it sounds like a solid plan. I have sm beer in my fridge that's just been sitting there. Drunken karaoke night by myself sounds good tbh.

I don't like being alone, but I don't have an alternative... so I'm just alone. I mean, I'm alone every non-holiday too... it's just, on the holidays I'm more painfully aware that other people are less alone today than they might be other days whereas I'm just as alone as ever, which makes me feel even more alone.

I thought about buying a gun for the holidays and doing it on my kitchen floor or in my bathtub. But, most likely, no.... I don't want to traumatize my cat.
I think cancer is the way for me. Every day I hope I get cancer. I've gone back to drinking a lot hoping I'll get cancer that way. Drinking really helps with the pain in my soul, tbh.

I usually do streaming marathons.
I live in a shared house who, ironically, I don't know the names of the other tenants.
Since my mom and dad passed away in 2020, I don't have any relative or friend to do any holiday together.
And forget special dinners. Only a bottle or two of wine.
