Ì think I had this feeling with my former therapist who wrote intentionally lies in my medical records. She was really uncomfortable when I called her out and she wanted to avoid getting reported by any means. (they backed her eventually evne though it was obvious she was lying). Her take on the Gaza conflict also was a joke. But I noticed when she commented on the Israel Palestine conflict (she compared me with nazis for going to a pro-Palestine protest - retrospectively I see so many red flags but I was desperate...). It was important for her to have a good reputation. In my country being on the side of Israel comes with a better reputation.
Despite the fact she was actually a pretty nasty person. I am not sure whether it was the first time she did something like that to a patient. I think she (and many therapists) have the notion of themselves as saints doing good work. There are good therapists out there. But I think they fade out when abuse happens in therapy.
Or my self-help group. I read internal mails (I quit the group after they tried to bully me...). And they posture themselves as healthy group that always and only received positive feedback. Which isn't true. Moreover, it was so unnecessary to pretend that. I had the feeling the person wrote that for the purpose of lying. And maybe for painting a picture that is more positive than the reality.
I think this is one reason why I like SaSu. We are the pariahas of the internet. Helping people on here is usually not rewarded neither materially nor socially. The people who are good on here don't receive/don't do it for applaude. I was always skeptical towards people in high positions with high reputation. If you manage a big organization (for example the medial chamber in my country) you have to be partially blind on one eye. There are many media reports about all the abuse that happened to people who begin their career in this sector within the last years. I think the people within that industry/organization are aware of what is going on but the powerful people keep silent. Until one day it comes out. But usually there will come new media stories and the noise will move on. I think many people are aware they are doing a work that hurts vulnerable people. But they keep their heads down in order to make money. Not all people in the sector are the same. But I think many people are ignorant of bullying and abuse of power.
