Somewhere I read about hotels that charging additional money on client's credit card for damages in cases of someone CTBing. I am not sure about hotel chains though since they have insurance coverage for such cases. I would use debit card but where I live the terms of service of card issuing company is that it does not work on recurring transactions. Like those that TV and cellular operators have but I am not sure why it won't work with hotels. Maybe it the fact that there is no authorization for future transactions when debit card is used? Debit card does not have allowance that credit card issuer provide. It only has bank's allowance and every transaction is approved by bank and there is no card issuer middleman that provides additional allowance above bank's.
But how is it in US and GB had I used debit card there? Would hotel be able to charge it further for inconvenience caused by me? I would not like my card be authorized for any amount they want for claims because I have someone who I want to have my money. The method is not messy and I would rather leave $1000 after passing for hotel staff and mention it in my CTB note to police to make sure hotel staff will get it.
Cash would be great but the problem with it is that you are competing with online booking systems where people book weeks before that and often the rooms are booked. I never paid for hotel in cash for future stay so I don't even know if that is something people do. Do you get printed receipt for that? Wouldn't something like this be unusual or even suspicious with me probably being the only person to do it?
