  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Some parents think if they financially support their kid, they already did a good job. I beg to differ. You brought a life to this world. You OUGHT to support that life. Nothing impressive about that. That's a bare minimum.

On top of that, you should take care and nurture the being you created without their consent. That includes emotional support, being there when they need you but also knowing when to let go, so they learn resilience and adaptability.

You should also do your best not to pass your trauma to them. Go to counseling or what not before being a parent. If you seem too damaged already, don't even think about having a child.

What are your thoughts on this (entitled) perspective about parenting?

True. That is the logical responsibility of being a parent but unfortunately that isn't always the case. A lot of parents have no clear clue as to why they are having a child or the responsibility that comes with it. On the contrary the child is expected to be the supportive one starting from a young age. Some say it's selfish to not have a child..yeah? How about having a child just to use it as an emotional punching bag?

Prevention is better than cure. Dont procreate. If you have the urge to nurture a child adopt one

I would go a step further and say that providing financially for your kids is below the bare minimum. Being caring and nurturing towards your kid is the bare minimum. That should literally be the most basic shit we should expect to see from parents.

You need to start an ETF for your kid at a young age and contribute to it. This is a must for every parent. So when the kid is 30 or 40, the ETF will be worth a huge amount because of the accumulated dividends snowballing into it every year.

There are cases where the fund is worth millions even though it started off with a small amount. However, few parents have the discipline for all this.

You need to care for your child's present but also their future. Because you don't know what issues they're going to have physically or mentally. It's a torturous existence. You're bringing it into play.so man/woman up parents!

While I acknowledge that being a parent is incredibly hard, and even the best parents fail, so many individuals simply become parents because it's what is expected of them, or they don't want to be alone/need to leave a "legacy".

My parents never should have been married let alone have kids. Neither remotely had the emotional stability or maturity to be parents.

My aunt with major mental health issues and anxiety adopted an autistic child she was completely incapable of caring for. She treated him like crap his whole childhood and surprise, he turned into an aggressive and violent teenager with major anger issues. And my aunt gets all the pity.

Never going to happen, but I believe all parents should be required to go through a complete review of mental and emotional stability before being able to conceive or adopt.

I fully agree, the vast majority of parents treat their children completely unacceptably, which is a slap in the face considering how wrong it is to procreate in the first place. Sadly, no one will listen because things like empathy and kindness are extremely rare in humans. This is undeniable proof we live in hell as far as I'm concerned.
