There is no tried and true way to overcome your SI because there are many evolutionary biochemical mechanisms in your body that reinforces your need to survive although there are ways you can cope with them. I suggest meditation for those that have turbulent minds. Yes I sound like some YouTube guru but meditation is often times the best method for introspection. For many people who struggle with mental illnesses I understand that meditation seems like an impossible task but try as much as you can. Think about your decision, how you got to that point and what all are the reasons that are holding you back from doing what you want to. Most of the time SI manifests in the form of some buried doubt that get's brought to the surface by your brain when you are getting closer to ctb. Eliminating these mental barriers is essential for overcoming the SI and most of the time such introspective sessions lead to new enlightenments in your perspective on life which could open up a path for you to explore rather than go down the ctb route.

In South East Asian countries monks often commit suicide by starvation mostly by means of meditation. That is why when you see those preserved monks in the pictures they are in the meditative position. I am not trying to shill the benefits of meditation here and I am not encouraging anyone to commit ctb using it or commit ctb in general. For those that feel that their thoughts are turbulent and need some form of clarity on why they are thinking and feeling a certain way I suggest meditation for better clarity,

Suicide by starvation with meditation is more for ideological reasons, then practicality.
Same with IRA Hunger striker Bobby Sands.

I think the only way to really beat SI is by not getting rid of feeling to die, as that will never go. But rationally looking at your life and evaluating what quality of life you have and what future you have. I guess you can do this with meditation but it's negative experiences you will be dwelling on rather than trying to clear your head and or be positive so could be counter productive.

My opinion is meditation could be better served for people trying to recover. /reset rather than trying to overcome si.

I would like to disagree on that end. Meditation in yogic practices is mostly used to enter into a state of hypnotic trance and not purely for ideological reason. The superficial understanding of meditation is the primary reason why most people cannot properly utilize it, by putting yourself into a hypnotic trance you are able to explore your buried thoughts that you might not have had the opportunity to observe otherwise. Monks who have meditated for decades have trained their minds to go into a state of trance which helps them overcome their SI which is how they ctb. I have read multiple books on this topic, specifically very old accounts from an Indian physician that went to the Himalayas to study the lives of these monks.

As for Hunger Strikes I do not know the specifics, and I am not denying that there is an ideological aspect to committing ctb through meditation. People of the Jain faith regularly ctb by way of starvation and it is due to their ideological beliefs. All that being said deep meditation can be used as a method to understanding yourself, which I think is essential for overcoming SI.
