Although a fair amount of people who CTB is due to a life without much quality, some suicides in this world are actually from very successful and intelligent people. Lets say someone with millions in the bank, who has already enjoyed life for a good few decades. He is simply starting to get a little bored, feels a bit empty, and simply wants to be in full control of how his own precious life ends. His parents may have already passed away long ago, he also doesn't have kids or much relatives he's close to, so its not like he has a whole lot to care about. He's also starting to age, and feels his health is slowly starting to decline. Therefore, after a few years of careful strategic planning, he plans to enjoy everything he loves once more, then find a beautiful and peaceful night to drink some N, and CTB while listening to his favorite music. He chooses this, versus eventually having to end up in some random senior home, or later having to go through hassles of various surgeries, medications, therapy, and hospital visits during his senior years. This is simply called VERY SMART and SUPER WISE. However, society will just straight up label this person as crazy, and instead suggest he should of definitely went to find help, and see a psychiatrist or go to psych ward...... This is the world we live in. Therefore, every case is different. Theres no one size fits all. Everyone has their own story and struggles and should be respected individually. Not just one big fat label to call every single person who wants to CTB wrong and crazy.

My life hasn't been all that bad to be honest. I have a good family and a few friends. Years of bullying because of genetic disorders have just left me nihilistic and made me realize that I don't really care about life or living.

This is pretty much me. i have no one left to care about. they have all passed on already. and while i'm trying to find a reason to stick around (job offered me a promotion) i'm still finding it very hard to convince myself to stay. new job might be exciting. but it's lonely a hell if I'm just working for myself.

i haven't had a bad life. i've loved, been loved. spent alot of quality time with my parents before they passed. i've traveled the world. i've done lots of interesting things. but i'm 43 and just start to get the the point where i'm too old to start again and to wise to know that if i did start again it's still going to end the same way.

I relate to this a bit. I have my method for when/if the shit really DOES hit the fan, then I'll have a way out. I think it's wise to end your life on a high note, rather than drag it out while the good times fade further and further from memory.

Even though bipolar as ruled my life for the last 20 years it's not been all bad. I've had good times and bad times and travelled the world. I tried not to let this illness dictate my life but it's starting to in a big way

Society always has a way of making people who want to CTB, or hang out in CTB forums like this, labelled as a bunch of failures, losers, low-lives, or people with mental issues. That is far from true. More examples:

1. Lets say a girl who simply really enjoys her youth & beauty a lot. She always had a thought where she never wants to ever see herself get old and wrinkly. Its what makes her truly happy. So finally before that day comes, she decides to CTB

2. Someone who deeply loves their mother, but their mother is not around anymore. So they rather CTB

3. Someone who deeply loves making music, but due to certain reasons, he/ she is not able to participate in music anymore. Therefore the person rather CTB

All these are completely valid reasons for the most part. Everyone has a choice to live their own life. Especially since we will all end up dying anyways regardless. So choosing to CTB sooner than waiting till the "natural" day comes to end itself, is simply up to one's personal desire and free-will

I've lived a better life than most people. Although psychological problems have contaminated it, I must admit it. I'm 42 years old and I feel that life is drawn from my veins. I never liked getting old. I would have continued without financial problems. Never mind.

My life peaked in childhood. I feel like an old man that did all he could do at the age of 31. What would 30-50 more years of stagnation accomplish? The angels from nde's wouldn't bother sending me back here... they'd be like, "Might as well take him now, he ain't gonna do fuck all."

I agree, but my stance on it would be that if they love it enough, theyll find every way they can to make music or pursue hobbies again.
My bass amp broke, i got depressed. I moved to Garage Band on my phone. Got my phone taken away. Then i resorted to making my own instruments and stole a amp from guitar center.
If theres a will theres a way.

That's a very interesting topic. The view that suicide is preceded by great despair or illness is, of course, the most understandable and common opinion. The motives behind the actions are certainly very different.
The reasons are certainly not to be regarded only in the narrative of the Zeitgeist.

I agree with what you are saying. Many people want to ctb simply because they do not see their life as being worth living and of course it can be perfectly rational wanting ctb in a life that is as pointless as this. We will all die eventually, death is inevitable for us all, so it is understandable that people want to exit at a time of their own choosing, rather than it being out of their control. I personally want to leave this world on my own terms. Nothing would ever make me want to live, I prefer the sound of non existence personally.

Yeah, a lot of people would maybe say, he or she had everything to live for and lots of money. Meanwhile the reality is that the person in question was slowly dying (inside) for many years and lost a lot of more important things in life along the way. A lot of stuff that people see on the surface is not the reality of that person's life. Good observation you made there.

Thank you for this post/thread. This is also my story. I'm actually from a middle-to-upper class, and my life has been quite privileged (& even spoiled until now at almost 40 yrs old). But here I am in this forum, heavily depressed (& suicidal). And I always think about Chester Bennington, the lead vocalist of the famous rock-band Linkin Park. He is so successful & famous, yet in the end he still ctb.
Life is full of irony & tragedy. It's all random. Anything could happen, even including any type of bad things unthinkable.

Chester seems to be a lot of peoples go to when it comes to talking about suicide. Maybe that is because he was open about his struggles. However there are so many celebs out there that threw in the towel or at least talked about attempting too. I agree with your closing statement. Life sure is ironic and tragic.

While obviously not the site for it—there are (very rare) folks who suicide to protest politically. Those never get a mention. Their lives might not necessarily have been bad…

I haven't had a bad life. I have a job, some friends, enough money. Of course I've had harmful things happen to me. My therapist told me that everyone (or most people) think of killing themselves sometimes but the difference between me and them was that for me, killing myself is an actual option. Really it's probably because I am bipolar and my brain is fucked up.
