  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I'm not sure if its just me but every other post I read through on here, the users seem to all have come on here in the last 3 months or so? I think I used to see a lot more older users but they seem to not visit as often. Might just be my memory. Does anyone else feel this way? Is this normal?

This could be my bias so ignore if you think its stupid to wonder why people on a suicide board might not stick around long, I know this place is a limbo/transitionary period for many but feels like its changed it userbase in recent weeks?

I guess I'm one of them too lol

I'm here years. But yeah there has been time where I've not been on. For many different factors but now I'm back for good. This place helps so many and there are so many good people here. There are so many different people and I wouldn't be able to answer why some are not on as much. I've noticed lots of new users but I've only been back on the last few days 🤷

Hope your doing well 😊

I think a big problem is that sasu is not well-known in many countries
otherwise many people would have come to sasu sooner

I don't know about trends but I found the forum simply because I was looking for resources, and the pinned megathread helped, and some minor watching pointed out some functions were locked to non users who have not participated enough, so here I am.

My guess would be that most people who find this forum are more active when they first find it... then things settle down and over time if they are still around they may or may not feel better but have already beaten everything they wanted to say to death (figuratively) by then and so you'll usually see more posts by newer people than ones who have been around a while.

Accounts on here come in waves. A lot of times some news article will get published about an "evil suicide site" and we will get a large influx of new users. Eventually they stop posting or leave, a few of them stay to become the "long timers". I think we are on the tail end of one of those waves (this is just my general observation, I have nothing to back this up). Also, have you looked at other sections of the site? I do not know the breakdown of users but there might be more longterm accounts in the Offtopic or Recovery sections (you know, the ones where people are not dying).

My two cents. I, too, have recently joined, but I have been visiting the forum and reading for a while beforehand. When I was lurking, I was mostly searching for specific information, and I think it's possible that, in this context (member or not), one stumbles upon older members and posts more often. When I became a member and started browsing and commenting more regularly, I saw a lot of new posts and members, just like you describe.
I think a few people in this thread already mentioned this common ''excitement'' upon joining, when one discovers a non-judgemental, supportive space for sharing their state of mind, and wants to take part. I certainly felt it. Maybe it stabilizes over time, I don't know.

why people on a suicide board might not stick around long
Because they either accomplish what they came here for or recovered. The first one is obvious and the second one means this place brings bad memories of a dark time so they better not associate with it anymore.

I think new users post more on average than user that have been here for years. Some might also be only active in chats and PMs.

Imo most people find the site (and search for related content only) when they are at the lowest points of their lives and totally desperate.

I am surprised I found SASU so late....
I've been passively suicidal for years and things were bad (not health related in my case) but I only searched for a community when I was really at ma lowest point , when I hit rock bottom and already had a method prepared.

I found the site over a year ago I didn't join I was just browsing a lot. I joined to interact and hopefully hone my skills. I don't feel so alone and being here helps me to get through the day. So grateful.

I'm new. And so thankful to have found this resource as I would have attempted in a way that would have not ended the way I had hoped.

And it's actually comforting to read so many accounts from people who feel the same exact way. I probably am still here only because of this place, as strange as it may sound.

I wish there were real life people that understood me the way all of these people who I've never interacted do, maybe I wouldn't feel like ctb is my only choice.

ofc... this is a suicide forum. people come here because they are suffering a lot, and most end up leaving, either by suicide, because they got better, or because they saw no use for this forum

when I came to this site, I was at one of my lowest points in my life. I would've never came to a site like this I think unless I wasn't there due to stigma, fear, and honestly conflict about ctb. I think a lot of people are probably in the same boat. For myself, I have cycles of recovery and agony. sometimes I feel hopeful about recovery, but then sometimes I don't and I come back. I hope one day I have the courage to use my sn….

so to answer your question, I think most users are the same. they either leave the site for various reasons after being here for a few months, or ctb.

Most users only come here for a few months. It's always been like that.

well, I see you're a new user yourself! hehe~ :) anyways, people only tend to be members here for about 3 months at most~ They either complete their desires or go on to hopefully recover off site~ :) Very few are here longer than that~ :) It's crazy because a lot of the older members have had times where they left the site temporarily within or shortly after their first few months here~

I only discovered and joined this site yesterday.... I've been feeling like this for months but after a low period, bottling all my emotions up made them into a molotov cocktail and I exploded all my dark thoughts at an online friend.... I feel like shit for worrying them, so i knew I needed to find somewhere else to express myself.... it took a little Googling to figure out how to find this place, the first couple pages are always "crisis hotline" and shit, I am happy for people who get help from those but that is not what I want to see now lol.
