We had lots of problems with the old theme and we had to add lots of lines of CSS and extra coding to get things working like we wanted them to work.

Hmm... I have been writing code since 1971, and I still write code. I don't find your explanation very convincing. You can "get things working" as you want them to work, without making much of a change to layout and feel.
