I can't really recommend any specific hanging spots, but as someone who survived 2 hanging attempts I can say that for me there was pain. If the rope is not too thin and it is positioned correctly you will feel pressure and some pain on the neck, but it's not that bad, at least it wasn't for me. However, if the rope is too thin it will dig into your skin more and be much more painful and if you don't position the rope correctly it will give you a feeling like your head/face is about to explode, like a growing pressure from there.

Thank you for your consideration ^^
The first time I did it I felt very little SI, however it was my first suicide attempt in my life and I was only 13 so I didn't really have any idea about how it would feel or what the consequences of failing would be. I think I was also on SSRI back then which made me more emotionally numb. I felt fear before kicking the chair, but I don't recall struggling or clawing at the rope afterwards. I was only suspended for a few seconds, I could see my vison starting to get dark and then I found myself on the floor since the rope broke.
The second hanging was much, much worse, however I think this was mainly due to the trauma I endured through the psych ward and knowing that if I fail I am risking going in there again. I didn't do it first try, I was in the noose a few times, got scared, tried again the next day, until I finally had the courage to kick the chair. It turned out my anchor point was too low and my toes were touching the floor. I didn't know about partial suspention hanging back then, I presumed it wouldn't work this way so I took off the noose and gave up. The rope I used was too thin too, it was strong enough to hold me, but it really dug into my skin which made me freak out more.
In my experience every failed attempt has only made my SI far worse.
