all of this is semi satire, I am sleep deprived and I come from a cultural of roasting/bullying as a love language
- Ensure your safety / the basics
- If you don't have a home, find one (easier said than done, have a roof over your head)
- If you are in abusive relationship, find refuge and respite (boyfriend/girlfriend/parents/step dad/boss)
- If you are poor, stop being poor (low key a joke but it doesn't help when you don't have financial freedom)
- (Also doesn't take much money in a first world country to survive, even if you're not thriving)
- Make sure you're eating okay (mind won't shut up if you're hungry). If you have
- Try behavioural activation when you're dysregulated (go for a walk, like your mum says) Please try to gym/run/sport something, fucking something. You have more nerves in your cerebellum (part of the back of the brain for balance) than your neo cortex even though it's bigger (see size doesn't matter)
- If you're drinking lots of alcohol, stop, if you can't, try cut down
- If you're smoking lots of weed, stop, if you can't, try cut down
- If you're self harming/cutting, stop, if you can't, cut safely
- Try shower once day, cut nails, basic hygiene etc -
- If you have no friends, go make some on the recovery forum.
- Summary, have a look at maslows hirachy of needs and fix it

It's important to learn to trust the medical team
To pass the vibe test
They just have to pass the vibe test like 60-70% of the time, they are not gonna be perfect and will piss you off If you can't trust what the doctor/mental health team says And don't feel comfortable talking back to them (respectfully) then you won't be able to heal
Now this changes depending on country, and how old your doctor is
But Ideally, you are able to make joint decisions together that you agree upon (and will act upon when you leave the consult room and take into your own life) Be prepared to whack a mole until you find the right medication(s) that work for you They might take time, and have side effects, give it a good shit
If it's causing sexual side effects, tell them, there are alternatives
If you have emotional numbing, tell them, might be meds, might just be for once in your life your brain is not on fire
Tollerance is important, yes, they will piss you off they are not perfect So is communication, they can't read your mind and they do want to work with you They are not against you, they want you to win, they want you to recover — call them pro-lifer, they just want you to stop suffering and can see the light that I/we can't see
Probably worth exploring how to shift from a victim/drama mindset, to a empowered mindset, something to discuss with therapy, but here is a diagram a ted video if your'e interested

See chapter 1 - ideally you have a good therapeutic relationship with your doctor and you can ask them how the meds work/doesn't work
This website not medical advice :P
I think to chose the right meds it's about mixing your own expertise (you are an expert in your own life, lived experience) with the "narrow" perspective of the "medical perspective"
Co creating a solution
Mixture of experts, you and the medical team
working togeather on a plan that will work
I'm on lithium for mood stabiliser
Methylphenidate for adhd which I only sometimes take
Quetiapine low does for sleep
I am also seeing a public psycholgist
got lots of therapy
and i try to live a fairly "normal" life
Previously been on over the years
Valproate
Lamotrigine
Aripiprazole
Citalopram
Bupropion
Olanzapine
Lorazepam
(I might make a post about how meds work and answer question if people are curious but there is heaps of material online and I don't want to double up on experts )

Generally though I do understand many doctors don't understand mental health (i know, my friends are not the best even with my as their classmates - so later on I might do a proper post explaining how the fuck medication is supposed to work and why
