Last year in September, my 14 year old family cat died from liver failure and a tumor.
Today, the second family cat, which was only 7 years old, died as well.

I'm fucking heartbroken. His name was Marty. He died alone in a cage, scared and in pain.

My mom woke me up this morning, crying and told me the cat is dying. He was barely moving, lethargic. He'd been hiding and sleeping, barely coming out and when my mom, who thought he was just sleepy, picked him up from under the bed, she realized he wasn't really moving. He'd been to the vet a few months prior, but seemed healthy.

I took him to the vet immediately. My mom is broke, she didn't get any money this month and still she scratched together her last 100€ and gave them to me for the vet.
Vet had no idea what was going on.
He was mute, usually, rarely meowed, but every time I said his name in this loving tone, he looked at me and meowed. He must have been in such bad pain. I'm glad I got to pet him one last time.

My sister and my brother went to see him on the evening. The vet said it would be best to put him down right now, so he wouldn't have to suffer anymore. My sister said Marty was panicked and looked like he was suffocating. My brother refused to have him put down, I don't blame him. He was in denial and convinced the cat would feel better soon.
One hour later, he was gone.

My sweet Marty. He slept next to my mom every night. He didn't really like me, I think. But I loved him.
Just yesterday, I was sending my mom videos and pictures of him as a kitten and we looked at them together. So cruel.

I hope him and my other cat get to reunite in kitty heaven. I'm no believer, but it's the only comfort I have.

The other cat we have, Bambu, who's just barely a year old, has been scared and hiding since. Maybe he feels alone without Marty.

I'm sorry if this post seems messy. I'm just really fucking heartbroken.

I'm so sorry for your loss🫂 losing your pet companions is like losing family members: it's just awful and heartbreaking. I'm so sorry
