My little brother shot himself in 2020 and I coped by getting shitfaced every night and playing this song on guitar, along with the rest of their repertoire. AIC is my all-time favorite band but I can't really listen to them unless I'm at rock bottom, which I hit way too often.

As much as it sucks for the survivors, I'm kind of happy and jealous of him for having the balls to do it before I did, though I was better off than he was. Ever since I left home I knew I needed to be there for him but never did jack shit because I'm hardly capable of hanging onto my own life by a thread. If I wasn't such a piece of shit things could have gone better, but I can say the same about my mother, and her father, and my father, and so on.

Anyway, when I get drunk and feel like scum, every single AIC lyric resonates with me to a ridiculous degree, across all Layne albums and some of the newer stuff. Definitely gonna be blasting it when I finally have the privilege to ctb.

And here's the one song we bonded over in the short time frame we were together right after our mom died - for good measure:

Dawg, this is the definitive version for me. 6+ years of rocking the OG version, all thrown to the gutter the moment I heard this cover. Only thing that could top it would be having Tom Morello collab - this version is perfect with the vocals driven up to 500%, but letting Morello do his shit would be a whole new level of transcendence.

Respect to the guitarist though for staying in his lane and not trying to mimic morello - wouldn't have been as good.

I vaguely remember the foo fighters doc when my dad decided that was a "good" band for the family, and I think it portrayed taylor as this cool younger brother type figure to Dave, almost a surrogate for kurt as sacrilegious as that is. I tend to dismiss the emotions of celebrities who have the power to buy and sell me on a whim, but I can't help but imagine how it must feel for this loss from ghrol's pov. In a weird way, death by one's own hand (kurt, stayley for all intents and purposes) has to be way easier to process than this.
