I found one video of someone who mixes sodium nitrite with hydrochloric acid. That is the acid in your stomach.
The reaction of the two creates nitric acid and sodium (salt).

It's hard to understand and takes some patience to watch but this is what happens when the SN reaches your stomach, for those who
are interested. Comments welcome.

No wonder people get stomach pain. I suppose this is why an acid reducer is recommended.

This is informative, thank you for sharing. Although I have to admit it makes me cringe a bit just imagining what'll happen in the bowel once the SN is digested.

What happens in the stomach is scary enough, the foaming and the red gas going out of the test tube.

Um, you do realize you do not have 20% HCl in your stomach, correct?

That looks like it would burn the stomach. Good thing most people report is relatively pain free

Given that this doesn't in any way replicate physiologic conditions, this is only (very) slightly more useful or relevant than setting SN on fire and claiming it burns violently when lit.

I am not using SN but the chemistry is still quite interesting. Obviously the reaction in the human body differs due to different conditions but it will share some similarities with what is seen here.
