  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I've noticed that some men on this forum are reproducing misogyny. I'm worried about this; no one tells them anything. Aren't there rules on the forum about this?
A man shouldn't be allowed, for example, to say, "Women who say a man treats them badly will do the same to you." This isn't true, and I feel like the men who said this may be committing violence (unwittingly or not) against women. When a woman says a man has treated her badly, there's a 99% chance that it's true, since we live in a patriarchy. Almost all of my friends have been abused, and misogyny is one of the reasons I want CTB, which happens to more women than those here (rape, domestic violence). I think it's unfair that even here they doubt us as if all of society and justice don't already.

I know the forum was created by incels, but users don't need to reproduce it.

I have come to see this quite a lot, there are a lot of lovely and kind people on here but some of the things I've read have also really disturbed me.

I've sort of made my peace with it - sometimes I've got the energy to explain why x or y thing is shitty or misogynistic but most of the time, especially when I'm not very well - and I'm usually on here more when that's the case! - I simply don't have the energy to push back to it.

But I've read a lot of disturbing shit and a lot of stuff that's not disturbing but clearly coming from deeply embedded misogyny and wanted to validate your experiences too!

I haven't seen many posts like that. If you think someone is being weird like that, just call them out on it. Most of the people here are suffering, both men and women. Both have suffered abuse. Some feel like they need to vent.So they might express some frustration or anger.

I have literally seen a thread here with the title 'I hate all men'. The poster then went on to say how they think all men are terrible, etc.

I can understand both points of view.

I understand you, I have less and less energy to answer these types of comments in any forum, social network or IRL.

Yeah, I'm not saying that men don't suffer abuse. What point of view do you mean?

No, I understand the women who say men are bad, and I also understand the men who say women are bad. It's their individual experiences that make them think like that. Regardless, I think most are just trying to vent and blow off some steam. So I don't take it too personally. On any other forum I would have much harsher standards.People here are suffering a bit.

Misogyny is not a "personal experience".

Okay, I have an unpopular opinion.

Before I say anything, fuck Andrew Tate, fuck Charlie Kirk, and fuck toxic masculinity and its mascots.

However, telling people that their beliefs are wrong are not sufficient to make them go away. And taking away any outlet for those beliefs to be expressed drives them further into the arms of people like Andrew Tate, it furthers their sense of victimhood, etc and has the potential to make those beliefs more entrenched. This applies to women as well.

So what's my solution? I think, as a courtesy, to place a notice ahead of your thread or your comment that themes of sexism will be discussed. This allows people to decide ahead of time: Do I read and brush it off? Do I educate? Do I empathize? Do I go to war?

Lastly, some things just shouldn't be around period, for example jokes about domestic violence, whether male or female.

This forum is all about getting to say what is really on your mind. I've seen sexism, racism, etc, all of the above here. Not that I condone it, but a lot of folks here very much use free speech to the fullest extent. You really can either ignore it, or speak your mind in return. It's easy to get lost in arguments online so I recommend the former.

You can report it, and sometimes they'll get a warning.

Misogyny is baked into this place. There are a lot of angry men here.
