I am making these assumptions here:
  • I believe that NDEs / visions of the afterlife are DMT trips
  • I believe they don't always happen
  • The DMT trip is only "death-themed" if the brain is aware of impending death (seeing your whole life flash by, seeing angels, floating towards the light, …)
It seems that researchers believe that DMT is released in high stress situations and/or "to protect neurons from oxygen deprivation".

I therefore conclude that not all methods are equal when it comes to the experience of entering death. And it's important to me that if I ever CTB that I get the full experience.

For instance, going out via jumping from a really high place or (somehow) via explosion I suspect are just straight to darkness.

Asphyxiation/drowning very likely include the DMT trip because that's both stressful and includes oxygen deprivation. But asphyxiation fucking sucks.

About FSH I'm not sure because the blood supply is cut off from the brain. I'm not sure the brain even 'gets to do anything' anymore. It also seems like people pass out pretty quick so I don't know if you even get to experience anything anymore.

I guess I'm looking for a method that would allow me to have such a vision of afterlife but isn't quite as torturous and difficult to do as self-asphyxiation. Thoughts?

I'm not sure about a method that would allow one to have an NDE experience, but personally I'm not convinced that NDE's are a result of DMT trips. Studies in the area suggest NDE's result in knowledge that could not be explained by the results of DMT trips. However, you were very clear in your assumptions so I don't want to hi-jack the thread.

A research paper done by Rosen in 1975 found that survivors of jumping each had some features of NDE's. Admittedly the research sample is very small. There are newer studies on the issue and a very cursory glance suggests NDE's are common regardless of suicide method.

Thanks! Did you find anything specifically on hanging?

Also, dig your username. He caught the bus by bleeding out in a tub iirc(?)

I did find some anecdotal evidence of people who hanged themselves having feelings of warmth, love and peace, but haven't tracked down any formal studies. Anything I come across tends to be a look at suicide and NDE's as a whole with little differentiation between methodology (with the exception of Rosen).

Also, good memory about Seneca the younger - he cut himself several times but wasn't bleeding out fast enough, had a buddy prep some poison which did not work so he hopped in the bathtub and checked out. Interesting aspect is that he only committed suicide after being ordered to by Nero.

The Monroe Institute Gateway tapes claim to be able to do this over years of practice.
