Mentally what to you think is needed to jump off a bridge?

Like aside from the logistics of it to succeed what do u think is needed to mentally be able to?

Apathy? Calm? Determination?

I'm again considering my options regarding CTB and it seems like a very solid option in terms of being able, which seems to be my own personally biggest aspect of stopping me.

I wonder if I should take a bunch of my anti anxiety meds or get drunk and if that'll help...

Dunno yet. Shall keep thinking but what do y'all think?

It'd probably have to be on a very bad day. You only need one second of being sure you want to jump, and then it doesn't matter if you change your mind.

What's keeping you here right now? Maybe there's a reason to think about it more if you can't commit to it fully yet. Do what you need to of course, but jumping and regretting seems very scary.

I agree with @God_Emperor_of_Rome and also the fact of the of surviving a long fall.

Definitely guts. Or something that just numbs you out emotionally. Living near San Francisco and the golden gate bridge, the thought of jumping off has always been on my mind. The jumpers Ive had close enough proximity to know about their death, have all been intoxicated. Ive peered down the edge a few times as well. What they don't tell you is it's not as easy as just jumping off the side. You have to climb down to get to a second railing and hope no one catches you before you can get off. This leaves no time to second guess yourself or get scared. Not to mention how ice cold the bay is. How sharp the wind feels, and how loud the waves seem. SI kicks in so easily. I think that's why a lot of people end up just walking away. Theres a lot more to bridge jumping that it seems

I'm curious for how long one would experience pain after a jump..

You would have to be sure of your decision beforehand, make sure there is nothing mentally that can hold you back, and once you get to the bridge remember that you want this and logically it's in your best interest. Let gravity do the rest. However if there is anything, anything at all holding you back, don't do it. You can always jump another day, but you can't come back from that edge.

Determination and resistance to cold? Jumping from the distance of the bridge all the way to the concrete/water is something that could feel long & painful.

I'm curious for how long one would experience pain after a jump..

A lot depends on the height. I had an acquaintance many years ago who jumped from the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson river (connects NY to NJ) and he died or at the very least was knocked unconscious on impact. Essentially the body splinters internally - broken ribs and limbs, punctured lungs, liver. I don't know for certain, but I don't think he was conscious when eventually his body went under and began to take in water. I don't think he ever regained consciousness after impact.

The Port Authority did pull him out/recover his body.

I was in NY somewhat recently and saw the barriers they're re-working on to prevent people from jumping off the GW. The Vessel downtown is closed indefinitely- the designer(s) of the Vessel do not want to raise barriers, which I respect. It's a large scale interactive sculpture - if people are going to visit, they're taking a risk. One family took their 14 year old son there after he had recently attempted. They even reported to the psychiatrist they were taking him there and psychiatrist said it was a good idea. Now they want to have words with the Vessel designers.

Excerpt:

A month later, Shilpa Kulkarni and her family came to Hudson Yards as part of a brief vacation from home in New Jersey. The family was well aware that her son, Shiv, struggled with his mental health. He was coming out and suffered with anxiety and depression. He had previously attempted suicide with a bottle of Children's Motrin.

His parents consulted Shiv's psychiatrist about their plan to go into Manhattan for a break and the doctor said it was a good idea. They stayed at a hotel in Chelsea and swam in the pool before taking a walk to Hudson Yards. The four of them together went up the Vessel, which had reopened just a month before under the new restriction that no one could go up alone.

As Lowell Kern had warned, it wasn't enough. As his horrified family watched, Shiv mounted the railing and leapt to his death.

Story in full for anyone curious

I think that those who managed to go through with the jumping method had access to somewhere high enough and were very courageous and determined to succeed, I admire those who have the courage to escape from all the suffering in such a way.

courage, determination, and not having a crippling fear of heights. maybe drink a little bit before jumping to calm yourself down, its good that you're deciding to take anxiety meds though, i'd take a big dose so im not completely aware of what i'm about to be doing (jumping) and if you're gonna jump into some water then i'd also tie some weights to myself so i don't swim back up.

I just overcame my fear with the fact that if I die, then it will all end, all apathy, depression, all my problems and so on, it really motivated me to make my first attempt in May. I can advise sedatives or tranquilizers to be more calm too much alcohol can just lead to the fact that you will survive so you don't need too much alcohol
