has anyone been on a medication that was helping however for whatever reason had to stop it and find something else?

context:

im currently on buspirone. its not "helping", one can only expect so much considering its not even for depression. but it is helping with another mental problem. the problem is i need a mood stabilizer or antidepressant. i looked into the mood stabilizers, pass. and now im looking into antidepressants. the problem, they basically all interact with the medication thats helping. im scared that im walking off of a safe zone and into really deep shark infested waters but its leaving me with basically no options.

for more context:

the interaction is serotonin syndrome

Found this: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9864079/ So it is done.....that it can be augmented.

Serotonin syndrome - there have been times I have combined things that shouldn't officially be combined, though maybe one day or two days not ever- out of sheer desperation. Not sure I have any serotonin!

Ideally you would get specialist support from a psychiatrist for this question.

hey, the top paper is about how they have combined anti-depressants with your medication. So there is a precedent for doing it. And that it can help people go into remission. So maybe you need to see if anyone will support you to combine the anti-depressant with your medication, as it has been done before.
Serotonin syndrome is a risk even just on an SSRI. It's rare, but it can happen to people just even on one medication.

my biggest fear with that is it seems im sensitive to medication. i was on the lowest dose of olanzapine and i slept 15-20hrs. i cut it in half and still slept 12. and thats just the effects of 1 medication i was on. im really scared to go off this one or mess with it in any way

I'm sorry, it must be terrifying. I hate the choices we have to make about medication and risks, it is terrible. I don't trust doctors to decide for me, so I make all my own decisions and it is all really unpleasant.

i do the same thing but its not that i dont trust the doctors just that every human is different and only i know me. the best they can do is give an educated guess. if i want to get anywhere im my best chance. i kinda cant get better without me.
@LittleJem you reminded me that im on a low dose so i checked it out. im only on 10mg daily. i personally feel safe with upping the dose so i think thats what im going to try. better to stick with safe grounds for now i think.

"The usual starting adult dose is 10-15 mg daily given in 2 or 3 doses. The dose may be increased by 5 mg every 2 to 4 days until an effective dose is found. The maximum adult dose is 60 mg daily, but most patients respond to 15-30 mg daily."

Oh good - I hope it helps.

Sometimes just talking stuff through, like when I call the Samaritans, it at least reminds me to take my vitamins or work out what my options are.

Wish you all the luck.
