[ UK man survives jump into Hoover Dam. ] Hoover Dam know to be 726 feet with alot of water below.

[ A man visiting Las Vegas from North Wales jumped into the Hoover Dam and successfully swam from the Arizona side to the Nevada side. ] He was super drunk from a bachelor party, and a good swimmer I guess, because he successfully swim across.

Hughes said he was visiting Las Vegas and the surrounding areas for a bachelor party.

"There was a lot of drinking," Hughes said. ]

so this man was drunk as hell, jump into the dam. Didn't die, swim through the water. Hoover Dam in Nevada. Must be a super good swimmer.

thisssssssssssss is why I emphasis so MUCHHHHH on those who chose the jump method to find the HIGHEST height that you can find to jump. Best if it NOT water below. And best if you NOT know how to swim.

If it was me, I be dead because I don't know how to swim. But this man did, he swim very well and survived.

I don't think he fell that far. He climbed down on some rocks, seems the story is he had to swim form one side Nevada to Arizona.

Neither way I would avoid water if I was a good swimmer.

The thing with jumping is you don't know. There even a woman survived falling out an airplane. But mind you, she was strap to the seat, then the cabin of the wing break off, and it fall. Then she land on deep snow and tumbling down. Basically she was protected by the cabin. Therefore she survived the fall.

I almost died getting myself too far out in a lake, swimming drunk in my 20's trying to make it to some island in the middle. He is very lucky he made it, especially that drunk. That's a long swim after a Vegas Bender!

800 ft is more than enough. It's almost as tall as the World Trade Center was. It's also 4 times higher than the GGB and people die from that. This is an anomaly.

I don't think it was much of a jump. He was on the Lake Mead side and there's a high water level there. If he'd jumped on the dam side, would be a different story. Creeped me out just driving through there due to the height. I think there's a more direct route across the dam than when I was last there.

That's the bridge I'm considering. Would you know why I can't find any recent suicide news stories regarding it?

The downstream side is sloped. You'd roll down.

I just looked it up. On the Lake Mead side, think drowning would be most likely scenario, because the water level is fairly high. The other side ofthe dam is stone, and people have gone that way - there's one where the person slides down and crashes into a wall - getting to the water on that side would be very difficult. There is now a bypass bridge which has a pedestrian walkway. It was completed in 2010 (after my time there). There have been some successful jumps. It looks to be over 800 feet high.

Why would you think I meant anything other than the bridge?

Did you seriously read the article? He walked down the Dam into the water and then swam a long way.

Surviving the long swim when you're drunk is no small feat, but he didn't survive a jump of over 700 feet.

The OP's trolling about people surviving 700 or 800 foot jumps is getting very annoying.

Two reasons - first, this guy went over the dam and second, the bridge wasn't there last time I drove that way, so I really didn't know what it was like which is why I did a bit of research. I was trying to provide you with accurate information.

Would you jump from it?

NO! The first time I drove up on the dam, I didn't even realize where I was, but everyone was slowing down and it got really curvy. I don't even know if I could drive across the bridge. I just saw a program where a guy jumped from an old train bridge. I know it wasn't real, but he seemed so peaceful and looked like he was bungee jumping.

I don't really trust it due to the sloped side of the dam and plus there is likely to be barriers and what not. Another thing is being a popular hotspot, it's likely there may be police and/or bystanders around to intervene, thus reducing the chance of a successful attempt. Jumping is one of the methods I'd only ever consider to go to if I was really, really desperate with no other better alternative. Not to shit on jumping as a method (because there are numerous stories of people who have died falling from great heights), but it's not something I would go as a first or maybe even second resort.

Jumping from the dam is retarded. There's a bridge there.
