Every time I think about any event in life I connect it with death. A new baby was brought into the world? It doesn't matter because that baby is doomed to die and you have brought him?her into this world to be condemned to death. I wonder why people are so sad when someone close to them dies. Have they not realized that it is inevitable? It doesn't matter if someone dies because we are all heading there anyway. Hospitals don't save anyone, they only delay the inevitable end. Police officers and soldiers suffer and die to protect other people, for what? So they can live a few more years until they too will die?

What is the point? Why do we care so much about our lives? Why is death consider a tragedy when it is happens to anyone regardless. Why do we fight so hard to live in this world, to make our lives worth something, only to fucking have it snatched away from us anyway? Why even bother anymore?

I have heard some people say that death is what gives life meaning but it sets a limit on our life and is therefore precious. I think this is bullshit that people come up with because they are unable to accept that the moment we are born, we are dying. I am unable to see how death gives life meaning in any way and if they really believe this then why did we humans invent medicine and other methods of delaying the inevitable?

I find it comforting to think of the peace of eternal nothingness erasing everything for me but of course the only true perfection lies in never existing. I find it horrific and so incredibly tragic how humans procreate even know existence truly is just pointless and meaningless suffering, more than anything I wish I stayed permanently unaware, I wish I never existed, to me only non-existence is ideal, death is the only relief for me.

Optimists assign a positive value to life, like you have to enjoy it as much as you can before you die.

That's why they believe death is so tragic, because the dead can't enjoy life anymore.

Reality is you you're better off dying as soon as possible and cutting your losses.

Life is indeed totally pointless. It's not like Jeff Bezos will go anywhere better after he dies than a homeless person. It is better to not exist than to have to exist.

people need to maintain their delusions, whether that's "oh ill leave everything to my kids" or "ill end up in heaven so it's okay" it's all just lies to get themselves through the day and make existence more tolerable. most people are unable to conceptualize a meaningless existence because their psyches can't handle being faced with their own meaningless.

it must be peak narcissism to see that 99% of people lead meaningless lives and conclude "wow, i will certainly lead a meaningful life myself!"

It makes me not want to achieve anything because what's the point? It's not like you can take your achievements and accomplishments with you in death. You'll have done all that work for nothing. I'd rather not put in any effort at all

The only thing i can think of is this place could potentially bring you alive sometime in the future
the end goal being to live indefinitely either that we are just the step to developing life with unlimited lifespans and then nothing forever
the only reason life survives here is because there are new life being born here since we all die within a short time really
life in all it's current forms is a waste of time because there short lived life's

Life is like playing an RPG on HC mode like Diablo and trying to level up, get loot and not get killed but ultimately there is a timer and when it runs out you die anyway and lose everything.

I think life is subjective in how we live it. Have you noticed how so many people cling to their possessions and have the need to do many things when doing less and owning little can also be rewarding. Since becoming ill, I have found.that the very small things in life have been fulfilling despite pain. We arrive in life not by choice and we all eventually die, so in that respect we have no control and tomorrow is unknown for everyone. I view humanity as no different to nature and that impermanence is a reminder that we are made of the same elements of the cosmos.

Yeah, this is exactly how I am thinking too. Very little makes sense to me now because it all ends in the grave. But my Christian worldview explains why people think like that (suppressing the fact of eventual death), and it's because humans and the universe were originally created without pain, sorrow and death (those things are a result of humanity sinning), so death is actually unnatural/a deviation from original intent. And that's why we have SI as well. So of course people in general avoid even thinking of it; death is traumatizing. Nevertheless, death exists (for now) and ignoring it is stupid and delusional, you are right.

It's up to you and each of us what we get out of our fleeting time in the world. The impermanence of life doesn't make the experience worthless in my opinion. But enough bad stuff and its consequences can accumulate to the point where you run through has become a write off.

Life isn't pointless because you are going to die one day. Life is meaningful to people while they are alive. Just because you are going to die one day doesn't mean you can't make the most of it and set goals for yourself and do things that you enjoy.

It's up to each person to decide what they want to get out of life. They don't have to waste it sitting around and doing nothing because they know they will die someday.

People don't live in a vacuum. Their lives are meaningful to people that care about them. That's why people help one another.

Death does bring meaning to life. Most people want to make the most of their life and set goals for themselves. They know that they won't always be here, so they go after what they want in life and don't waste time. They know that their family and friends will die someday too so they appreciate every moment they spend with them and don't take it for granted.

Life is totally pointless. We never asked to be born . Yet we have to suffer through a totally futile existence to non exist again. Utterly totally pointless!
Every night I pray that I won't wake up . That's my dream . To go to bed one night and never wake up . I would even choose this over a trillion dollars because I know material objects are fleeting and one day I will get old and with that the difficulties and health problems of old age and eventually die anyway. I would rather go to bed tonight and never have to wake up again to this hell hole .

Death does bring meaning to life.
death does not give life a purpose. Death doesn't add anything to life. Death doesn't motivate me to make the most of my life. Life doesn't become meaningless without death. Life is simply existing, and death is simply not existing. Knowing that one day, I will cease to exist, doesn't make me "exist more" in the present, does it?

It's not that death by itself gives life a purpose. Death can make people appreciate their life more and not take it for granted. There are lots of people who almost died from an illness or an accident and it made them value their life even more. They do live more in the moment and try to get the most out of each day. Many of them have completely changed their lives for the better.

You don't need to know the objective meaning of life in order to find your own meaning and to enjoy life. People decide what is important to them and what they want out of their own life. Their life and experiences are not pointless because they die. Their life has meaning to them while they are alive. Their experiences in life do not become less meaningful because they know they are going to die. It doesn't mean they should waste their life by doing nothing or that they can't enjoy the good things in life.

,,Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas" meaning ,,vanity of vanities and all is vanity". I remember it being one of my favorite quotes, even though I am an atheist. For those who don't understand the meaning, Kohelet talks about how nothing we achieve in life matters, as when we die we loose it all and stand in front of God all the same. No matter how wealthy you were, how intelligent, how much you traveled around the world, how many materialistic things you had, none of it matters

Little moments of joy, or satisfaction, or pleasantness, farted out of a swamp of dismay, disaster and meaningless pain. Is that "worthwhile", something I am willing to experience, something I pay for with my mortal flesh & mind?

Yesterday and today, I got to ride an e-bike I bought for transportation. It was equal parts "wheeee! I'm flying" and "ohshitohshit toofasttoofast ima diiiee". The motel manager saw me and said, "Hey, cool bike". Attach meaning if meaning can be attached.
