Seeing what is happening in France is horrifying.
There are multiple reasons why I don't want to live/wish I had the courage to CTB
but climate change is a big one. Even if my health got magically cured, even if I became a millionare, climate change will still destroy us all and it will happen far sooner than I thought.
It's not a matter of "if", it's only a matter of "when". It is over, humanity is doomed to end soon. Sure we can do good things to delay it for a little bit, but it is inevitable and it became so years ago.
I look at France, I look at the people fleeing their homes, all their lives going up in flames, all they worked for their whole lifetimes completely destroyed and I think of how I will be one of these people soon. Maybe in 3 years, maybe 5, 10, 20.. but it WILL happen and I do not want to live to experience that. I do not want to be a part of the climate apocalypse.

This so so so much. Humanity is burning and nobody cares. Not only that, but they happily vote for parties who will make the situation even worse.

What also terrifies me is that europe has no fucking ACs and we're being baked alive in our own homes/workplaces/schools. Thousands have died in a single day, in a single country, and our chancellor said: "We'll continue to observe the situation and then maybe make a decusion." JUST SAY YOU DONT FUCKING CARE AAHHHH

It's incredibly sad, but by the looks of it there's just not much that can be done at this point. Directives are contradicting - stopping climate change means to grind modern capitalism to a halt, or at least slow it down by a lot. Society demands stuff, materials, innovation. All these things are driving the depletion of resources of this place and we can only do so much to slow it down.

I also wonder how much of this is actually being caused by humanity being here and how much is just the cosmic cycle of things. IDK, but like many here I don't wish to stick around for the fallout. I always keep wishing I was born in the 60s or something. Would have been a different life altogether. Can you imagine that in the 60s fastfood chains simply didn't exist? Look at us now.

The world was never a happy place for all of us and will never be. I'm suicidal because of things inside of me(mental illness etc) but even on a shitty day I can see atleast a second of beauty in this world. Which sucks even more since i can't properly enjoy it.

CTB because the world has issues does not help neither you or the world. Imagine how much you would help the world if you would be healty and rich.

Imagine how the french felt when Hitler marched in Paris and it seemed like all is lost? That really must have felt like the end of the world for the french. But the people that kept hope got to see Hitler dead and they rebuilt France into the beautifull country that it is.

Focus on yourself I hate so much depression I can see how it paints my world dark but I can't stop it. It's like even if outside is a beautifull day I have to wear a pair of grey goggles or somtehing.

I hope we all find peace

Yeah it's insane really, the summers here in Austria have gotten almost unbearable, it's not a rarity anymore that we get over 40 Celsius and almost nobody has air conditioning. Also in some regions it basically doesn't rain anymore so they need to start rationing drinking water. Like today in Vienna it's as hot as in Abu Dhabi, which is pretty wild

Well in my part of the world, the summers are belting specially you won't even dare to step outside and even this year it's has rained a bit.
Climate change is a bigger challenge than we anticipate and obviously we as humanity aren't even ready to burden it

It's depressing to know that so many people would rather prioritize their own profits and continue to ignore climate change. This is also a huge reason for why I want to CTB. I don't have hope for the future of humanity. At least there's kind and selfless people in this world still, but they're not the majority. I don't know what to say to people and myself to make us feel even a little better about this.

Climate change has had an severe negative effect on my mental health over the last 10 years or so. Given that it will lead to further suffering on an immense scale, I think it's reasonable not to want to hang around to experience it. Humans are too stupid, greedy, selfish, and short-sighted to have nice things (as a species), and climate change is just another example of that.

It's really scary. I went to college for an Environmental Science degree about a decade ago and when I learned just how bad it was going to get and how much worse things could get, it made my depression much worse. I wish I could unknow what I know, but unfortunately the climate future isn't looking great. It really does feel hopeless. I just do my best to breathe in the fresh air and watch the birds and accept that I still have today, and today is a beautiful day.

Hello. That fear is why I'm here. I can't even bring myself to read anything in this thread past your post, as I fear reading something triggering. I wish there was a suicide group for those afraid of the effects of it. I wish I had someone to die with, and wish these deep fears weren't so niche. I feel so emotionally walled off from some of the closest people in my life, not just from hiding my feelings, but from my depression repelling them. I brought it up in therapy only to be dismissed and downplayed. I don't make any long term plans and it confuses everyone around me because I feel I can't say why.

I really wonder what the point of pushing forward and planning ahead even is, considering the direction things are headed. We may be looking forward to famine, unprecedented migration, and widespread conflict and unrest over basic resources.

People are ignorant and often unwilling to try to engage with other person's perspective or try to understand you. Therapy is especially notorious for gaslighting clients (literally the basic principle of CBT). I want you to know though, there *are* a lot more people who feel the way you do, even if you haven't met them. Especially the younger generations. We're just mostly not very vocal about it due to the reactions you have described, but you are not alone, far from it.

i think dealing with climate change is a priority for most or all developed countries around the world. If you listen to their rhetoric it definitely is, and i do notice things have changed over the years such as more windfarms, solar panels, electric cars on the road, carbon mitigation goals being met, new technologies constantly being made, rewilding movements are growing and biodiverse habitats are being created and preserved. I think its helpful to remember that climate change and environmental issues are some of the foremost goals of international organisations and a lot of thought and resources are going into finding solutions to it. We are becoming more resourceful and sustainable and that trend will continue. Also democratic political shifts cause a lot of despair but it's limited how much they will stifle international organisations like UN so don't be too disheartened by people like trump or whatever it probably wont be as catastrophic as a lot of journalists make it out to be, institutions worldwide will continue to work hard finding solutions despite who is president.

Also green energies are attractive worldwide even without governmental policies driving them as they are now cheaper than fossil fuels due to fossil fuel scarcity and economic bottlenecks, green energies also offer countries self sufficiency as they wont be reliant on monopolistic supply chains (united states) making it globally attractive. Basically green energies are just better, they're cheaper, more efficient, cleaner, more sustainable, green energies will be the future. I think a lot of the fear is the result of fear campaigns which are designed to drive people toward activism but they also have the consequence of causing people to freak out which doesn't help anyone

It makes me so angry, watching the people who have power do nothing to change it while EVERYBODY suffers as a result. I don't see anything changing in my lifetime (or ever), and it feels so miserable to imagine that things will only get worse from here.
