What if this is all a dream what if this is all nothing and the only way it's anything is because I perceive it to exist, call it narcissistic or whatever but what if when I cease to exist we all do? For we're all just brain cells next door, every second someone we once knew dies and we're just waiting for that bus to pull up only we don't know which bus, it just arrives and calls our number and that's that, for if a tree falls in a Forrest and no one's around to hear it does it make a sound? Anything only exists because I/"we" perceive it to exist, maybe I'm fucked up but am I the only one maybe I am, maybe we are, survival instinct is just us and that's why we're all here trying to convince and dissuade ourselves from facing the inevitable on our own terms???

It's a good point. It's called solipsism. It means you can't prove that anyone else, except for yourself, has a mind.

Personally, I think you're real, friend. I think what you wrote has meaning, too.

That's called Solipsism

Just so, you know, it's not an original thought you had

I have been having similar thoughts, what I figured out by doing lots of researches is that no one knows the answer and we only try to distract ourselves from reality, there are really many options of alternative realities, universes, afterlife.
I really hope for nothingness after death.

Nothingness has to be the end goal, just like falling asleep, peacefully slip away into nothingness

I've been having the same thoughts, too. Recently, I got sick with DP/DR (depersonalization/derealization). Questioning what the hell all of this is. Why do we exist, why does anything exist at all? I really hope for nothingness. Some may fear dying and want life to go on forever. But for us whose lives are little more than pain and suffering, going into oblivion is like sipping water after a day of thirst. I don't know if there's a supernatural entity. If there is, I hope it has mercy on all of our souls. I keep telling myself what kind of wisdom is behind that possible entity letting all of this happen, esp. pain. Maybe there is some wisdom that's incomprehensible to us, the way a horse wouldn't be able to ever understand what a human says. But I honestly don't know if God exists, or whether there is an afterlife, or why this universe exists.

If it is an illusion than why there is such strong pain present

I definitely think consciousness is a mystery- the realisation that we are alive. Still, I've never been able to get my head around the disbelief in reality itself- beyond a kind of simulated reality type thing in as in 'The Matrix' film.

I definitely think the way we perceive the world is unique to every single one of us- so- in that sense- we do create our own realities. For me though- physical reality is real... None of us would be here without having parents. We can remember being children- we can remember being alive last month- so- we must be organisms that grow and age. There will have been a large proportion of your life- as a baby that you probably don't even remember. Does that mean you weren't alive? Does that mean it wasn't 'you' at that point?

I'm just super curious- do YOU need to physically witness things to be sure they exist? Do you believe dinosaurs existed? When no humans were about. Do you believe that there are still plenty of plants and animals on this earth that haven't even been discovered? Do they need to be seen by humans in order to exist? Do you need to see them personally to believe in them? Even if ALL humans went extinct tomorrow- do you not think the world itself would survive?

I don't know- I've just never really got the argument. When it comes to personal perception- sure- none of us know that the tree in the forest fell unless we saw it or heard it. Sounds are created by vibrations though. When that tree fell and hit the ground- it still would have created vibrations. Doesn't matter if there were any ears in the vicinity to hear it. Still- I suppose it just depends on what you believe. If you think EVERYTHING in the world is set up around you as a kind of illusion- then- you don't need to believe in physics and things you can't actually see/witness.

It's not like anyone can prove it to you I suppose- so- maybe go further... WHY has this world been set up around you? Is it some kind of alien species trying to keep you content? They're obviously not doing a great job if you're on this site. If all this is influenced by your thought patterns (why not? That's how you're experiencing it all) maybe try some thought experiments- try and make things better maybe? I don't know. It's got to feel pretty strange though- thinking you're the only one who's actually alive. Does it make you mistrust the people around you?

I personally just believe that life is just an unfortunate consequence of evolution where we are only destined to return to nothingness where we won't even be aware of the fact that we are gone. To me, the existence of life is just a tragic, cruel mistake, life in itself is the true problem which can only be solved by death. To me permanent non existence is certainly the best possible outcome, it sounds ideal being completely unaware of everything, to me life isn't an illusion, it's sadly something that is very real, the suffering that is experienced in this world is beyond horrific.
