To me, it seems more like a laughing emoji. What if I find something funny on here, but I can't react to it with it because it says "yay" instead of "hahaha" or something like that? Does anyone else find this emoji confusing, or is it just me?

I feel like they should re-label the current "Yay" emoji as the "haha" emoji and they should instead create a new Yay emoji. I personally think that the new yay emoji should look something like this:

conversely, wanting to express a 'yay' is difficult because there aren't alternatives to accomplish that and not look like they're laughing. i find that the best alternative is the heart but that's a bit intimate for a fairly anonymous site. the reactions here aren't great but it's seemingly been years of these suggestions with nothing to come of it

I thought this way initially, too. But I think the meaning of it shifted a bit, like "you touched my heart with this", stronger than "aww..." or when you really, really like the post. I was also confused since I only recently started using messengers and in the group chats there, people were also reacting with hearts all the time. But I got used to it. Just like in real life, where we might not hand out hugs so quickly, but here we do.
@GlassMoon :
(i maybe should've used 'familiar' instead of 'intimate.') all of them are used for a range of reasons of course, sometimes completely contradictory ones, so there isn't really an issue with the heart specifically. i was just giving another example of the trouble with having so few ambiguous choices
I don't think clown or poop should exist at all. People are definitely going to use those to make fun of others and that kind of thing would be bad in a place full of people who are greatly emotionally suffering.
