I've been thinking this over. In which cases giving up and letting the disease do the work is less painful? I have been running out of viable methods and have contemplated letting a heart attack finish me off.

Of course there are diseases for which this doubt has no place. I just wonder if anyone here has thought about this.

But you cannot really make yourself get a disease that kills you soon, to me it sounds like it would be very difficult to do that. It is understandable someone wanting to die from disease as it would mean that they would not have to go through the process of planning ctb. I think that if someone already has a disease then it is an option just to let it kill you. Suicide can be very difficult and it really should be easier.

It would be great if it didn't entail pain. I had gallstones a few years back. The first attack, I thought it was a heart attack. I didn't phone for an ambulance because I felt ready to go. Two hours later and the terribly intense pain had gone but I still felt shit.

Long boring story but between having moved back and forth between varying locations and different GP's, I'd had around 13 attacks before anything got done. By then, a stone had moved into my bile duct. When the pain didn't go away for 3 days, they referred me to the hospital. Eventually, they performed ERCP to remove the stone and then, removed the gallbladder via keyhole.

Thing is- gone untreated, that would have eventually killed me. I couldn't stand the pain though. I just wonder how sympathetic/useful Dr's are if you tell them you don't want treatment. I wonder if they will still give you pain killers to cope with the pain.

I still get mild pain on both sides of my abdomen daily. A part of me hopes it is something that will kill me but I don't want it to get anymore painful than it is now... That's really the trouble- many diseases/conditions I imagine come with pain- the bodies natural response to let you know something is horribly wrong. It's just how much of it you can stand I suppose- and for how long.

Sorry you had such a bad time, quite an ordeal--My gallstones only just mild pain, but I didn't waste any time when it happened--Went to a clinic here in Jupiter Florida on a Sunday, got an appt with the Dr/Surgeon the next day(I just walked into his office), then a few days of tests(blood test, ultrasound, chest x-ray), then Fri Doctor called and said ok time to take it out, got my gallbladder out on Mon morning--With my Medicare Part F($300 a month)the whole operation and tests cost me nothing--Dr said some of my gallstones looked 20 years old lol---But, like you, still felt some mild discomfort in the same area for months--Doctor said its gastritis and would go away after 6 months, which it did

Thanks for your sympathy. Glad you had yours diagnosed and fixed so quickly. With me, it was a bunch of different things that delayed the diagnosis- some my fault because I hate going to Dr's and only really go when things are unbearable. Plus, they weren't the best at diagnosing what the problem was. My Dad got frustrated with me diagnosing myself off of the Internet. 😄 I was right in the end though!

Hmm, maybe I'm a wimp but the pain was terrible for me. Dread feeling like that again.

Interesting you still got mild pain too. I guess it's still an operation- even if it's keyhole- stuff still needs to heal I guess. Weird thing is I get pain on the left as well as the right back then and now. My Grandma suffered with diverticulitis. I've always been so scared I would get that... She was in pain every day. I definitely won't deal with that shit. The first sign of something medically acceptable and I'm sure I would apply for assisted euthanasia. I don't know how people cope with pain every day.

I don't think there is any deadly disease you can intentionally get. But maybe other people know of one? Really sorry for anyone suffering and hope you find some relief.

I can only think of diseases against which the best defense we have are vaccines. But too many involve horrible suffering to be viable.

The doubt is focused on people who have already contracted a disease which can cause sudden death.

Yes, too many diseases take a long time to die with symptoms so really not ideal.
