This is the method I will be using. If done correctly, and can get the concentration of CO up near 12000 PPM, then it takes not too many seconds. I will be using 3 burners for CO production in a tent and I will have a CO meter to accurately measure the PPM. It can be very fast and very painless, not unlike N really. Except it's a whole lot cheaper than N. After lighting the charcoal, there is a "wait" time until the charcoals burn themselves in and start producing large amounts of CO. but, once they start producing the CO, whatever area they are in is filled quickly and CO concentrations increase rapidly. It's a good method, IMO, if one does their homework about how to do it correctly. If done right, 100% success.

@locked*n*loaded I haven't researched this method, but if you have, do you happen to know what the ambient temperature would be with this method? I guess I would expect this to be excruciatingly hot, like an oven. And any vent to cool it down defeats the purpose.

Once the flames are gone, the heat dimishes quite a bit, so it is unlikely to be unbearably hot within the enclosed space.

I imagine it will throw some heat. I honestly don't know how much, but I plan to ctb in the winter, so setting up the tent in my unheated garage should not be a problem as far as heat. And it won't take long anyway, so it may not be that big of a problem even in warmer temperatures. I think I would be able to stand some high temperatures for the minute, at most, until I go unconscious.
