Tonight i tried CTBing using CO and failed. My meter just read an error code when i turned it on after getting into the room with the charcoal, which i burned until white and glowing like the guides said. I also think i may have waited too long and not enough of the charcoal was still glowing when i brought it inside. And maybe my 14 inch grill couldn't fit enough charcoal, i didn't weigh it but there was a lot, lump charcoal btw. I can post a picture of how much i used if anyone wants, and maybe someone can tell me if it was enough.
Nobody on here talks about the little issue of how the hell you're supposed to seal the gaps around the door AFTER getting in, which is like, duh? You can't exactly seal the door before getting in the room, can you? So I had to think of an idea myself, which was to breath through a tube stuck underneath the door gap while i taped up the rest of the door frame after getting inside. I wanted to wait until it read 10,000 ppm and then i'd take a few breaths and be out in a minute. But like i said i just got an error message.
Now i'm airing out the closet i was using, opened all the windows and stuff because i don't want to get braindamaged unless i'm actually about to CTB. My meter is working now (??) and it took a while but it just reached 0 as i'm typing this. The highest it read after i opened the closet door was 140-something in the hallway, so there probably wasn't nearly enough CO being produced in the closet. Another reason i think that is i took a few test breaths while still sealed up in there, and i didn't notice much of anything other than a smell and of course the heat. Not even some lightheadedness.
I read the meter's manual, and the troubleshooting section for the particular error message i got said it might need to be "purged" but the manual doesn't say how to do that. Tpi 707 btw. It's working now, so theoretically i guess i could turn it on and put it in the closet, then bring in the charcoal, then seal up the door, then see if the meter stays on and shows me a reading? That's probably what i'll do.
I smell like smoke and can't shower. Fuck.
