Although this belief doesn't have a specific beginning, it was made most popular by the Greek philosopher Plato. This was later adopted by Origen of Alexandria, an early church father from the early 200s. Origen taught that all souls were created in Genesis 1:1, or shortly after, and are waiting around for a body to be created so that they can be placed inside.
In other words, souls are believed to exist before the body, hence the term "pre-existence." This has also casually been called the "Soul Bank Theory" because the easiest way to picture this belief is that God has a large collection of souls banked somewhere in the universe, and when a human being is conceived He will pull a soul from the "bank" and insert it into that new human body. This bank idea is further clarified within Jewish mysticism, where they call it 'the Guff."
An interesting thing to note with higher functioning autists is their individualism. If you have Asperger's like me, (Which is a 1% chance) you more than likely have a soul. I appreciate that these individuals have hobbies and interests that the masses find weird or strange. They aren't wired to follow the herd like a typical neurotypical. They care less about trends or fads because they are individualistic. Individualism is also synonymous with free will. Free will indicates in many religions that you have a have a spirit.
However, neurotypicals can also have spirits or souls. But what makes an NT a free soul vs an NPC is if that individual is self aware. Does that NT follow the heard? He/she is a soulless npc. Is that NT self aware? Then he or she has a soul. It's quite easy to find an npc actually. I estimate that 70-85% of men are npc's, and 90-to 95% of women are npcs. I put women higher as majority of them seem to lack the introspection skill that a person with a soul has.The same applies to men, but at a lower rate. Approximately 90% of this world is full of soulless npcs.
Is it a bad thing? No. But they will simply be sent to the void after death. Overpopulation currently is a problem and many humans are born basically bots due to bank of souls being finite. They are born to kiss up to others and to discriminate against those who are deemed to be different. They are sheeple. Easy to be controlled by higher powers like the illuminati.
