  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

At first its like:

"Dont kill yourself.", "We can't just stand here watching you do that." "Its not okay if you die."

And then its like: "I mean, its your decision.", "Its not like we can stop you.", "If you really want to do it, noone can stop you."

I'm not even sure if they are trying to make the transition easier for me into the afterlife, or they have just plainly given up to me.

I don't know who has ever said the second line. It's always some variation of the first line with "it is the cowards way out" thrown in.

It sounds like they are respecting the right to die and accepting your decision. I think that over time, maybe many people come to the realisation that there is nothing that they can do to help and it is up to the individual what they do with their life.

However, I feel like most non suicidal people would never accept suicide as they do not understand what the person is going through. They see suicide as something that must always be prevented. It is cruel and selfish to expect people to suffer for decades against their wishes.

Hey

Need a bit more detail on who is saying these things to you? And why do you feel suicidal?

I would always encourage people not to kill themselves

But of course, some circumstances are so bad there's nowhere to go

I battle the thoughts a lot

In a twisted way it is brave to be able to take your own life (?)

I didn't jump from Beachy yesterday

It is absolutely difficult to take one's own life. There's a lot to consider such as SI, guilt, the will to do it, and actually succeeding. It is not the "easy way out" like some people would gaslight one into believing.

100% agree friend

Those saying 'easy way out' have never been in the position of darkness to do it

And probably are mentally stable and financially stable or whatever

Yeah, you are having a nice time - come chat to me when I'm sitting at Beachy 1ft from the edge a thousand thoughts of do don't why why not guilt running through me - easy? - come hold my hand and jump / drag me over if it's easy

People's views will definitely change over time. I wonder how many people have gone full circle. Most people with reasonable lives would view suicide as a mistake, then once they experience a serious loss of quality of life, suddenly they would see the other side of the perspective and demand agency to take their own lives. And yet, there are those who have recovered from such a state who end up opponents of this very website.

TLDR: people's opinions have no substance whatsoever.

I have never heard the second line said with true respect for anothers consent. It's usually only said matter-of-factly because it's almost impossible to stop someone who is very determined to do it.

I think people say "we can't stop you" etc.. once you've had some non-fatal attempts or gestures, and they now believe you're talking/acting this way for attention. They become frustrated and their mindset becomes like "well if they really wanted to do it they would have done it by now, they're just after attention"

source: I used to think suicidal people were attention seeking.

Very few people will get to the second line. And if they do and truly mean it and are not saying it in some passive aggressive/reverse psychology way then I respect them a lot.
