It doesn't always get better. I think normal types should shift their idea that, "If I can go through a, b or c, then anyone else can get through said circumstances". There's an inherent bias within survival stories. We do not all experience a better quality of life, as a result of one to several lifestyle changes.
Neurotypical used Platitude ("It gets better")!

It's not very effective. . .

But seriously, the average human cannot, and will not, recognize survivorship bias nor question the validity of success stories. Conformity enforcers (e.g. parents, teachers, mental health enforcers, doctors, media influencers, religious leaders, ect.) take advantage of this mindless mimicry by censoring "negative" true stories and broadcasting "inspirational" stories - real and fictional - for the majority to consume. Mavericks who cannot or will not indiscriminately accept success stories get silenced one way or another, from ignoring, gaslighting, and ridicule to exhale, torture, and execution.

Hence, one of my mottos regarding human nature being "You can't teach the average human anything outside its social programming." In fact, I'm envisioning a frustrated cat or old dog struggling to train critical thinking skills to a human.
Wow we are only remembered if we shoot up a school… those words are chilling because they're true. The kids who have done that were mentally not okay and I bet until they hurt others they were bullied and cast aside. We aren't ever loved or cared for when we simply exist with our mental issues, and yes we only hear the success stories and those people tend to just have good luck. Most of us don't have that
Despite the millennia-worth of countless humans (of all ages) lashing out when abused and/or neglected, the majority continues to react as if it's the most shocking phenomena in their sheltered lives. This connects to the expectation and demand for every individual to constantly docile, compliant, obedient, resilient, and functional throughout their entire lifespan. All for the purpose of exploitation by members of their in-group(s), especially high-ranking, powerful humans. In reality, humans aren't the epitome of morality, ethics, or empathy; they aren't the gentle, loving, trustworthy beings they appear to be; no sentient mind (human or animal) can indefinitely withstand stress, trauma, abuse, or neglect without any negative consequences; and every human has the potential to become violent and lethal.

This was really well written and I enjoyed reading it. I never even looked at it in the sense of survivorship bias but that's exactly what it is! It's scary seeing those who were the exception spout off things towards the majority who for the most part, will not be able to crawl out of the hole they are so deeply stuck in. As I get closer to my death I have become more and more disgusted with human beings and the way they behave.

It's comforting to see you too and I'm sorry you haven't been able to make it out of here 😔
I think the only way I will make it out of here is if and when I ever get the courage to CTB. It won't be because life gets magically better.😟

Without googling names of shooters .... How many of us could name them? I don't watch the news alot so I can't even name the shooter from Ulvade. Who even remembers the guy who went into the movie theater showing the Batman from like a decade ago. Used smoke bombs and shot up the place.
Sorry if I derailed the thread a bit. There are many reasons why "It gets better" just doesn't matter.
Working at Micky Dee's isn't anyone's goal for a dream career. (Didn't mean to offend anyone) Unless you are an executive or C.E.O.
Many people have never had the opportunities the select few did. Then they blame the poor for daring to ask for help.

Wishing it was better for all of us. Just doesn't happen for everyone. Emotional right now. I guess I will never be a real man. No wonder some on here thought I was female. Thank the gods I haven't reproduced. Would be a disaster.

I'm sorry about you being misgendered. Experiencing and expressing emotional pain doesn't diminish your masculinity. Unfortunately, many humans are so cruel, closed-minded, intolerant, unsupportive, and disrespectful when it comes to gender expression that doesn't perfectly fit the mold. I also support your decision for refusing to reproduce.

It's ok. I thought I put in my profile I was male and maybe I didn't do it in the beginning. I don't even see it now.
As for cruel humans IRL, I don't care about them anymore. When I was younger it mattered.
I would never want to bring more life forms into this world to suffer like I do.
No one would want to have kids with me anyway.

To use a metaphor; saying "It gets better", is no different to putting a bandage on an infected wound. Yet, the perception from Mavericks doesn't come from stubborness. As you've expressed; the Mavericks' ability to see beyond the superficiality of platitudes, makes a frightening prospect for normal people. I find it genuinely saddening that those who don't think along black & white terms get punished in the ways you describe. COVID-19 is a good parallel. The part of the world I live in enabled those in power, to hijack the hysteria and create a 2-tier society - the people versus COVID-19 conspiracists. Your motto is very fitting.

It gets better is such a subjective line and has many meanings for people. I didn't get better, I just got better at coping with shit and making room for new problems to crop up and exist in my head. So I get to deal with those.

For some, it can and does get better, no point in making statements that make those who want to bring this site down seem right. Obviously, it depends from case to case. Encouraging people to commit suicide is sick. If someone is sure they want to end their life, they should be free to do so. On the other hand, people should be encouraged to really think hard before committing to a permanent solution to what might be just temporary problems. Probably the main issue is that people are not really offered meaningful help and this goes for governments, prolifers, and this site as well.

SS doesn't encourage suicide and members asked, whether they're sure about ending their lives in goodbye threads, is proof of that. If peoples' problems were temporary then they'd be no need for places like SS. The Recovery subforum shows that meaningful help is offered.

You know that thing of- 'What would you say to your younger self?'... I've been suicidal since I was 10 (now 42). My advise would be: 'Kill yourself now- it doesn't get a whole lot better.'

I think life can turn around for people but I think it rarely just happens. I think you probably either need a ton load of support, or an unwavering will to seek new opportunities to make things better and not get beaten down again when things go wrong once more.

I think the trouble 'normies' have with suicidal people is that they just don't understand the depressed brain. I feel like making things 'better' is a real fight and depressed people simply don't have the energy or desire to fight anymore. Or even the slightest belief that things will 'get better!'

Older people have helped me a lot here. So many say they wish they would've done it when they were young and I feel I'd be the same if I waited around. I have to go while I still can

I wish it did get better. I truly do. However, as many of you have already mentioned everybody's health and individual circumstances are different. If life is giving you more downs than ups then I don't see the point in trying anymore. Those platitudes (while maybe well intentional) are not helpful to someone who has suffered most of their lives. It's all bullshit.

True. It's only getting worse for me. Wish I died when I was a child. Last somewhat good time. So much crap could've been avoided. If I've been one of those kids that accidentally drowned in a pool or something. It doesn't get better if you have incurable&chronic health issues. I find it's the really healthy ones "haven't had anything worse than a cough in my life" people saying this. Piss me off. The actual truth is that whatever you are going through could always get worse, and ain't that cute. I just looove living ☺️
