Why is it that if someone is in pain and wants to die and if you help them, then it is a crime. If they commit a crime they can go to death row. After many decades, it could be their turn but the government and lawyers are going to fight to keep this person alive and if they cannot keep them alive, that they do no suffer when being killed. So why can the government help to kill someone, but another person can't?

I understand, I just see so much cruelty in how those who want to not exist are so cruelly imprisoned in this existence with the suffering and torture of existing seen as to force and prolong no matter what, it's so horrible to me. I wish it's not a crime wanting to sleep permanently, I never would had chosen the futile, torturous burden of existence in the first place and I'd always prefer to not exist than suffer all for the sake of it in this existence I personally saw as a mistake just to be tortured by old age, it's terrifying to me how a human can suffer for so long.

It basically has to do with the cost. If you want to euthanize someone painlessly the general going rate Can reach $1 million in the prison system I suppose a lot of that has to do with appeals and due process But the actual execution itself is around 250,000 I think the cheapest they ever do it is 120,000.

Obviously something like a firing squad or hanging is much cheaper but First World Nations haven't used those in a long time.

I guess society's main logic is if they make suicide really inaccessible and hard to do then they will drive down rates.

Actually, I do live in the US and the state of South Carolina has made news recently for using firing squad two times in just over a month. Articles I have read said that that is actually the quickest and most painless way. I definitely recall new stories saying it takes a while when they do it by injection and there have also been a few stories of it taking exceptionally long and not being an easy death

Painless death for death row is a myth people tell themselves to feel better about ending a life. There is no painless method of killing anywhere. The mental trauma of facing your imminent death is agonizing enough. And pretty much every method is painful. There was a very publicized case of hanging of an alleged rapist and murderer in my country back in the early 2000s. The executioner later confessed that he realized that the noose wasn't placed properly and the guy on deathrow apparently didn't get his neck snapped correctly, resulting in him hanging there suffocating for about 3 minutes. Just because some method looks instant doesn't mean it is painless. Realistically we will never have a description of what a dying person feels in their last moments, but scientific evidence points to that moment being pretty terrifying and painful. Every neuron in your body starts firing, your body flushes itself with a bunch of hormones to trigger every survival response. It's never painless.

I actually disagree with the premise, the state doesn't care at all whether the executed on death row suffer. During the procedure itself, their main focus is on optics. In some cases, the aim will be to make the execution purposefully brutal, to scare the populace into submission (e.g. public executions). In other cases, they will want to portray the execution as humane or peaceful, because a visibly brutal execution draws attention to the fact that the state gives itself the power to mete out death.

For example, in the United States, the government spends exorbitant amounts of money on lethal injections. Far from being peaceful, this method of execution causes immense suffering during a slow and painful death. However, it appears outwardly peaceful because the drug has a paralyzing effect, so the executee won't display much distress. It is well within the state's resources to use execution methods that are painless, but again, that's not their goal. That's why the US government spends so much money on developing methods that appear to be as painless as possible and only pay lip service to the idea of a humane execution.

It's funny how we as the land of the free and the brave can do so much harm to our own people and other countries. Our healthcare system has become a business, our prison system has become a business, our mental health care system has become a business, everything in our country is just about making profit now. Other countries look at us as barbarians in some regards believe it or not.

I wouldn't say that the United States has become harmful and profit-oriented, it's been like this since its inception. After all, the US became independent because of a revolution led by wealthy landowners to protect their property
