Discussion Isn't it unfair how much of life is just pure luck?

So many of our outcomes depend on sheer chance. For me, I was lucky enough to meet someone who became a close friend and nearly saved my life. Then he left, and now I'm back to being alone again with absolutely nobody in my life except my aging parents, one of whom abused me. It makes me think about how many suicides are caused not so much by weakness or some kind of "moral failure" but by factors outside the person's control. Sometimes it comes down to whether you're lucky enough to encounter someone who gives you support and a reason to keep going, and who just happens to enter your life at the right moment.

All of life is pure luck. There is no free will meddling in a universe driven by laws of physics. You needed a complete gene set and proper conditions to develop a functioning brain. Your mother had folate deficiency while you were inside her? You get anencephaly. All we can do is just observe our lives as it plays out given the genes and the environment.

I hope I can at least be that lucky encounter for someone someday.

It's all about luck honestly, your genes, the way you look, where you were born, your parents, environment you grew up, all of those things define in like 99% how your life is going to look like and you had absolutely zero control over them.
